You have two versions of this video and I watch both of them all the time. People in this category are not just organists. They are performing artists using works of art that are actual feats of mechanical engineering. Not only do they know what notes to press but at the proper time using couplers to increase the magnificence of it all. Top it off with the learned ability to pick stops that add color, depth, and texture to the overall sound. Peter Van Der Velde is in a masterclass of organists.

She shapes the lines so well, and the playing is so crisp, and I really like the choices she makes, especially that rapid B section that is all staccato, but then she decides to slow down and taper it gently before going into the melodic haunting fantastasia C section. Nice choices! I wonder about all the tempo changes, but I like it immensely, what an intelligent interpretation.

Maybe it wasn't fully understood. He was a great organist (even if sometimes overshadowed by others....) and a good teacher. May the earth be light on you, dear Samuel.

Yes indeed; She got it right. Wonderfully expressive and "romantic" but...the sloppy tuning and mushy audio engineering did not match the piano performance and equally fine video. This makes it difficult to listen too for long. What's the deal with bad engineering from audio persons and tuners who insist on cheating clients by using temperaments? Take a moment and listen to this one done with clear/precise tuning and engineering. It is a high school age audition (non edited) recording so the video requirements were more strict: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKG1i6eklM-Dm5o

I read the name Samuel Kummer for the first time when ordering his double-CD with JSB´s "Art of Fugue", recorded by him on the magnificent organ, built by Bach´s preferred organ builder Zacharias Hildebrandt in 1746 and restored in 2000, in the St. Wenceslas Church of Naumburg ... Upon hearing that CD, I was overwhelmed, even more than by the recording of the same work on the same organ from the 1970-ies, published on Vinyl by Christophorus which at that time impressed me more than anything I had ever heard before ... I cannot describe how sad I am upon hearing of the passing away of this great and generous musician, apparently while waiting on the Dresden main train station for his connection to Würzburg where he was supposed to teach his organ pupils ... It would not surprise me, if the court case with the "Stiftung Frauenkirche Dresden" has weakened him to the extent of breaking down physically ... Also, it would not surprise me, if his fabulous recording of JSB´s "Art of Fugue" in Naumburg would play a role in the whereabouts underlying that court case ... Rest in Peace, dear Samuel, your Art (and in particular your Art of Fugue) will never be forgotten, may you forever play to God´s Glory in His divine presence up there ... Soli Deo Gloria! ... interesting concept of muted military timpani/military march was a fresh breeze at the beginning but misfired a bit at 3:55-4:15 because it lost Brahmsian deapth in sequencial/modulational chords…
