Thanks for checking it out, and glad I could give you enough material for a video--and get you asking the important questions like "Is memory contained in jizz?" (scientific fact: Yes) Anyway, hope ya weren't scarred too much--let me know if I need to cover any therapy sessions and I'll send you a check. :) Ya made me smile!

Hit and Run was my first. A part of me would still have loved to have seen The Babysitter & The Lifeguard adapted for TV or cinema. From memory the most grisly and graphic of the range were The Lifeguard, Beach House and The Hitchhiker (oh and the 13 anthologies). Otherwise I did find the books very tame, and definitely felt superseded and dated once Buffy came on the scene. I find on revisiting the best tend to be the earlier books before the formula set in, although some of the later books that went against the grain (like Dream Date) were also ones I remember fondly.

Oh my God, this book was f***ing awful. Some Point authors failed to realise that the appeal of the line was that they were unapologetically straightforward thrillers without morals or preaching. Caroline B Cooney never got the memo (I know I'm alone on an island with this, but I got sick of every damn book of hers being a religious parable about the Good Samaritan.) This guy didn't either. It's exactly what I'd expect Cooney to come up with if she wrote about a haunted photo booth. A haunted photo booth is a great concept, and this is what we get???

"Is 666 the number of the beast?" - It's 666 in most sources, but there is an early text that has it as 616. 666 and 616 are Hebrew number code (Gematria) for "Nero Caesar" in Latin and Greek. It's widely accepted by scholars that the Book of Revelation (where the number of the beast comes from) is a kind of early Christian revenge fantasy against the Romans, because of Roman persecution of the early church. Writing such a document could be considered sedition, and since sedition carried the death penalty in the Roman Empire, Revelation was written in code - hence "The Beast" is code for Emperor Nero. So Revelation is basically a load of anti-Roman insults written in code, not some prophecy about the end times, as many current Evangelicals would have it. Biblical scholar and KZbinr Dan McClellan has a couple of very accessible short videos about Revelation if you want more info.

I own a copy of meridian on DVD. I grew up around movies, my parents owned a video store in the 80s. Meridian is an ok gothic horror/fantasy, but like so many 80s films, it overly relies upon aesthetics with a lopsided and often patchy storyline. The monster's an unspecified beast, they never say it's a werewolf. I'm guessing the director was going for a darker version of Beauty and The Beast of some kind. I'll be subscribing btw, and look forward to watching other videos on this channel (I just subscribed).

The mention of Orthodox Jews is ironic, considering the following: Anton LaVey was mocking antisemites. When theofascists say _satanic,_ they're talking about people who believe in the God of the Bible but disagree with their interpretation - in other words, Jews (and Muslims, but mostly Jews). 'Satanic' the way the Christian right uses it is an antisemitic dog whistle.

All of which is extra ironic considering evangelicals (at least the ones I was around in the 80s-90s) would swear up and down that they love and respect the Jews as God's chosen people. While, you know, also trying to convert them. They used to get so excited about Jews For Jesus. You know, that good old attitude of, "We love and respect everything about you! . . . except for everything about you."

This was great! I was born in 2000 so I didn’t grow up with these books but I love the horror genre and the awesome vintage covers of these caught my eye. I so far have the Babysitter series and some other R.L. Stine titles. I want to read the Vampire’s Promise as the premise seems really entertaining to me! The Funhouse is now on my list as well.

Great video. Can't wait for the Relaunch video. Identity Theft and Followers are two of the worst books I have ever read. Anna Davies was completely out of her depth. I thought I was missing something, until I realised she was simply steadfastly refusing to explain the reasoning behind ANYTHING. And Cooney's books were Christian parable claptrap. There, I said it. 😆 Diane Hoh was my favourite. She didn't release a single clunker. (Well, maybe The Wish in Nightmare Hall, but that was still better than a lot of Point Horror.)
