Christianity first arrived in North Africa in the 1st or early 2nd century AD. This was around the same time it spread to Northern Europe. Christ was not a white man nor were the people who followed him first.

" Im not black,Im Igbo". One of the dumbest things I have heard. With that mentality, you're not contributing to anything in Nigeria except creating more division and tribalism in a country that's already torn with civil war. Secondly,Nigeria doesn't need more politicians and pastors. It already has plenty of those.

Hi everyone! I want to publicly appreciate some of you for your kind words and encouragement. 🙏🏾❤️🤗 I also want to clarify something because I see that some people in the comments have drawn poorly-informed conclusions based on an 11-minute clip from an unscripted conversation. First and foremost, my identity is determined by my Creator and I am very confidently and unapologetically a believer in and follower of Jesus Christ. That is my primary and most important identity. Secondly, I am very much Igbo, both of my parents are Igbo and I was born in Igboland as I mentioned in the full conversation. I can trace my lineage back several generations and I will always be proud of my Igbo heritage. I thank God that some random jobless keyboard warriors on the internet do not determine my identity. It’s especially disappointing to see some of the comments and ridicule are coming from my fellow tribesmen. For those wondering, l do travel to and spend time in the southeast regularly and I do work in the southeast. I would have gladly shared the work I do/have done in my homeland if I was asked rather than insulted in the comments. I travel to the southeast multiple times a year (not just Christmas) and enjoy spending time in my village. I work with NGOs based in the southeast and with my own family's NGO, we have run health programs in both Imo and Anambra for women affected by breast cancer. Most notably, Paint Owerri Pink 2019 which was a series of breast cancer awareness programs including free cancer screenings and financial support for women living with breast cancer. This will be the last comment I make on this matter. Thank you once again for watching. God bless you! ❤

You could have just asked a simple question as to whether I’ve traveled to the southeast or done work in the southeast rather than concluding that I haven’t. Chinenye (God gives) such an uplifting and beautiful name. Nice interview covering a range of issues. Chimamanda’s quote is partially correct and partially inaccurate. Yes, colonialism created Nigeria, and created “black”. But here’s the challenge - colonialism also created the “tribe” In colonialist societies, the word tribe is reserved for “backwards and primitive” peoples. Germanic tribes are a nation. Anglo Saxons are an ethnicity or nation but Africans and native Americans have tribes and tribal chiefs. As a writer, it is reasonable to expect Chimamanda to understand this connotation. Second, “Igbo” was widely adopted in the 70s/80s. In the 60s and before the term was Ibo. Just pull a book (or I newspapers) from that era and you will see the term Ibo. But if you go back a few centuries you will notice yet another term - Eboe. This was the term referring to multiple ethnicities from the region (Delta and inland). There’s a part of Belize City called Eboe town dating back to the 1700s. Equiano’s narrative published in the 1700s also refers to Eboe country. Interestingly, the frequency of usage dropped around 1900 with the formalization of British colonialism in Nigeria and the introduction of the term Ibo around the Lugard era.
