I started off with soft corals and a few lps corals and allowed to grow out. Them over time replaced a few of the soft corals with more LPs ams some SPS. I knew what I wanted to achieve and the corals I wanted and stuck to it. I think having goals helps to stay patient. 1st time looking at your channel ...very well done and relaxing.

Thanks for your calming video and the work you put in! But, how do you ethically justify to keep a Paracanthurus or any tang as we know they are really active swimmers even visible in their anatomy (& maybe muscular distribution of red&white muscles?) and have a extensive mating ritual and have no Chance for mating etc. Essentially what I mean is how do you know that it is as "happy(can express all the diversen behaviors + in a healthy condition)" as in nature for me only that would satisfiy the criteria for ethical fish keeping. The question is not meant to be provocative but I am really just curios as I myself struggle to justifiy certain fish I keep tbh. Would really love and appreciate an answer! Thanks a lot!

Hello Thank you for your comment. I really appreciate your kind feedback on the video, too. You’ve raised some excellent points and I think these kinds of discussions are really important. I believe there’s a lot we can do as mindful reefers to ensure the wellbeing of our tank inhabitants. Whilst it’s true that we can never fully replicate their natural habitat, or provide for every aspect of their wild behaviors, I think we can observe a fish’s health and behavior to assess its overall wellbeing. If a fish appears stressed or outgrows its environment, It’s our responsibility to rehome it to a more suitable setup. That being said, I also reflect on the ethics of certain aspects of the hobby. Moments of questioning whether what we do is justified, especially with fish like tangs that require larger spaces and exhibit such complex behaviours in the wild. However, I think one of the strongest arguments in favour of reefing is its ability to inspire people to appreciate marine life. Many hobbyists go on to learn about conservation and become advocates for protecting our oceans, which is something I think the world needs more of. Ultimately, this video was about encouraging reflection and conversation around these topics, so I’m really glad to see it has resonated with you. Thank you for sharing your perspective, watching along, and engaging so thoughtfully. Harry

Thank you for your lengthy and constructive answer - I really appreciate it a lot that you took the time and effort! Just to get u right - you are basically saying that potential suffering is outweight by the possible good which is achieved through increase awareness for the ocean through reef keeping(A ulitarian arguement)? Just wondering do you know if (I will also google and post it here) there is any data on this? Ultimately supporting this Kind of argument for reef keeping. Thank you again for your time and effort! @@TheSpiritualReefer

Great video I've had a saltwater aquarium since 2020 but it has been a very long tragic rough journey. Buying equipment, fish, and corals that I didn't need and wasn't ready for. Plus I also suffer from depression, PTSD, and major anxiety which caused me to neglect my tank for over 2 years killing all my corals and most fish. This caused my nitrates to rise to a level of almost 200ppm and Phosphates to almost 4.0 ppm. Now I'm a recovering beginner reefer. Please don't make the mistakes I made or you too will destroy your own reef tank it's not worth it! And I hope to get my channel back up and share my journey as I'm trying to recover my own saltwater aquarium.
