I honestly believe this game had the most ruthless main boss of the series. Yes, Kefka poisoned the people in the castle and then killed people and destroyed towns, but Emperor Matheus killed the same amount of people, and had so much evil he split in two and reigned in two different planes of existence.

The original Famicom release is bad enough to kill a polar bear. Playing it was like taking some kind of fucked up suppository. You don't play it quite so much as you stuff it uncomfortably up your ass.

That is a good call out. Thinking about it I want to say it is because those game are more actiony but I don't think that is it. I think it might be because it is too free in FF2. Meaning anyone can use holy at any time and while you can go in a build direction it doesn't really have focus or rails. Where in scrolls, if I remember correctly, you usually need a skill or have to level a skill first before you can using the advance techniques. That I think gives a sense of direction, focus, and structure when doing a build instead of just spamming skills for skill ups. I'm probably going to be stewing on this for awhile lol.

Ff2 is actually the first saga game. It was an experimental game, and it has good ideas. I hate the implementation though, in this game and the saga "saga". Improving yourself by your actions is cool, but the rng is pure bullshit, and some of the actions are boring (like you want more hp? Get hit a lot... aka stay without doing nothing in combat =p). It's a grindy game in which the grind is not fun, at least for me. I don't know... make your character with more hp by fighting wearing heavy armor for example, or quicker for fighting with papercraft armor for example... and make consistent the increase in stats... reduce the fucking rng... i know this game is pretty old, but that same inconsistency perdures in actual games

I think the only real "problem" with the game is that by the time anyone was able to play it here it felt incredibly dated. If we got everything in order it would have been fine, but we had already played 6 and 7 and you can't go back from that. FF1 is just as dated but it gets a pass because it's The First, but this one doesn't get the benefit of any nostalgia.

I hate FF2 the same as I hate Romancing Saga series.. the leveling system FF2 leveling system can easily screws you if you don't know how it work, if you attack too often then sure you'll get insanely strong, you can easily K.O. enemies in one attack but becuase of that you'll notice that your HP is insanely low.. why? Well that's because enemies rarely have chance to hit you before getting k.o.ed... therefore you can't raise your max HP and ultimately becomes glass canon... Your character heal magic also harder to level up because you rarely have chance to heal in the process

The pixel does give you passive HP growth as a setting you can use which helps avoid the smacking each other. Your healing issue still stands though.

The battle system was quite different in this game that when I played it for the first time over ten years ago (Gameboy Advance version), I ended up having only Cure II when I faced the final boss. I am not overly familiar with Dragon Quest but in Japan, at least at the time, it was the bigger franchise. DG3 reviewed much better because it just improved on what people loved about 1&2 giving a bigger world, better stories and quests, and a enhanced job class system. Dragon Quest seemed to know what it was and what people liked about it at the time, Final Fantasy was still trying to nail that down. Seems to reflect a bit on how FF2 reviewed in the 5-7/10s where DQ3 ranges from 7-10/10s and blew up sales number in Japan.

I think the fundamental problem with Zack and by extension the whole of FF7 is Nojima. He kind of fell off after changing his mind about X-2 and you can see where the parallels manifest in Remake and Aerith's conundrum therein. He basically sneaked Zack into FF7, even Kitase was caught off guard by his existence. While that is fine in and of itself, the problem introduces itself in the form of revisionism à la George Lucas, when the developers become fans of their own fiction (pun intended).

In the original game, Sephiroth talks a lot about Jenova and and how she was not a calamity but a saviour. I don’t think he has even mentioned Jenova in Remake or Rebirth. Not in a positive light anyway, just how she can manipulate your mind.

What a cheap way to maintain engagement for a game…all they had to do is tell a great story and pull at the emotional heartstrings for people to continue talking about the game. Your Sephiroth theory is great. However regarding Aerith, I don’t think that one is Jenova. For Jenova to mimic someone, there has to be some part of her physically present (in the form of a black cloaked guy, or literally like her tentacle, as in Aerith’s death scene or on the cargo ship). Jenova took the shape of Tifa in front of Red and Barret in the OG, so I think if it’s going to take someone’s form again, it will be a bit later.
@TheEggplantKnight
@TheEggplantKnight 2 ай бұрын
I could be wrong but I am pretty sure we have seen Cloud have visions of Sephiroth without a vessel present due to him having Jenova cells. Some examples are at the reactor run with the feather, the "run away cloud" scene after, when he snapped and attacked Tifa, and when he has his trail in temple of the ancients. Unless I am miss remembering a hooded guy or tentacle being present. The Vessel is only needed for folks that do not have Jenova cells, people like Rufus or other team members in the cargo ship. Then again if you are right could this just be the end of time Sephiroth reaching out which is why a vessel isn't needed.
@motionista
@motionista 2 ай бұрын
@@TheEggplantKnight Oh, right, I think I might have missed something too. I wonder if it can be some sort of clue (like there can be two mechanisms of Sephiroth to appear: with or without Jenova parts. Then what is different? Is it important?). The examples you listed seem more like Sephiroth trying to communicate directly with Cloud rather than mimicry, but if it’s not that, then Jenovaerith might be true. But then again, what is the point of having fake Aerith and real Aerith’s spirit in consecutive scenes without any apparent distinction?..

***SPOILERS*** It didn’t bother me how they go to Cassandra’s hideout and the Deadpool fight just kinda ending was fine too, but I agree with the Logan backstory. Even when he explained it to X-23 it was just like “ok well anyway you can leave now so I can keep drinking by the fire”. Just fell flat. The old man Logan “I killed everyone” would have really given you that “o shit son” type of moment this movie could have used. As far as Loki cameos go, I was thinking he would show up as the reason why they survive the negative/positive energy thing. Instead of just “well two regeneration powers = super can’t die powers” I was thinking as I watched it unfold, it would be dope if the moment the machine explodes if Loki kinda snaps them to his makeshift throne, has some sort of “your needed for bigger and better things” monologue and then snaps them back to the subway. For all the time we spent in the void to not have Loki show up was odd seeing how many great cameos we got. Fights between Ryan and Hugh stole the show and for those two sequences alone, A-. Also, Deadpool talking shit about Hugh’s divorce, savagery.
@TheEggplantKnight
@TheEggplantKnight 2 ай бұрын
Yeah I didn't cover that but I thought when they did the antimatter thing they would either, as you said, end up being saved by Loki or sent back in the void. Them being back in the void could kind of explain how the TVA stun batons work, agents could of just shown up again but taken Deadpool home as a thank you. Even though the post credits scene was a joke I do wonder if they are trying to imply Deadpool still has his TVA pad and can travel the timelines/multiverse. Bit of a stretch but I wonder if they are going to use the "Deadpool Corps" to replace the concept of the Captain Britain Corps for the MCU. Fun and action wise the movie is an A +. Overall plot and some events brought it down for me.

You wanna be a prophet? :D put this theory into consideration... - Lifestream is a resource for the CREATOR realm. They sent out people (Cetra) to a lifeless planet/rock with the kickstart lifestream and kicks off the life cycle. As the life cycle continue (life and death cycle within the planet), the lifestream gains memories - new tech, new medical achievements, new skills. These new gain, Cetra can weaponize - they create Materia out of it (like creating steal Materia from memories of people who knows how to steal). This means what memories the lifestream capture, they can use to strengthen their army. As a valued resource, they added a fail safe system, they added Chaos and Omega, within the lifestream - look it up in Dirge of Cerberus. Omega's primary purpose is to collect purified saturated lifestream ( a lifestream with optimized memories) and send it back to the CREATOR. Jenova, a Cetra, was deemed a traitor for her action (whatever it is) was condemned as a being to not be able to return to the lifestream (think about the GI and the blood queen back story as to how Jenova became that way), So Jenova's objective is to go from one planet after another to consume the lifestream for her own. This will make her stronger and at the same time reject the CREATOR who betrayed her with the lifestream. - Jenova is the Harbinger When Jenova arrives, the Cetras lock her up so she can't go to the lifestream. The Cetra's know that once she go to the lifestream, it will be harder to deal with her. Unfortunately, she was discovered by Shinra and experimenting on her paved a path for her to return in to the lifestream - thru Sephiroth (much more later). When she was in the lifestream, she concocted geostigma . Unfortunately, she can only use Geostigma within the lifestream (corrupting dead people in dream state - more of this later) Jenova learn how to push geostigma out of the lifestream - thru FF7 OG meteor vs the lifestream so she manipulated things in the back ground and push the blame to Sephiroth, in order for the lifestream to gush out of the planet carrying geostigma with it. Why she need Sephiroth?, she is not of the planet's lifestream. She needed a being strong enough to call forth the meteor, and at the same time born from the lifestream, so he use Sephiroth'. At the moment of Sephiroth's weakness (discovering what Hojo s doing in Nebelheim), she was able to CONTROL him. And thus start the puppeteering of Sephiroth - Sephiroth WAS NEVER CONCIOUS in the OG, Jenova was just using his image to mislead people - guess we were mislead :D She was successful in her goal, thru manipulation of people, including Deepground (in Dirge of Cerberus), She was able to decommission Omega and saturating the lifestream by genocide. This means a success for Jenova because Omega who is supposed to send the pure lifestream back to the creator in such events, was decommissioned by Cloud's party by her machination. And so Jenova the Harbinger is hell bent on preserving this timeline - current OG was her best result. - Sephiroth is rebelling Cetra has power over the lifestream. Sephiroth, being indirectly a product of a Cetra, also gained similar ability of the Cetra to manage and weaponize the memories within the lifestream. After regaining his ownership of his consciousness after death (right about the advent children time frame), he learned within the memories available in the lifestream that his existence is in peril because Jenova want's to consume all of the lifestream - which would include him eventually. Unable to fight directly against Jenova, he manipulated the party to do it for him and so in Remake Final Chapter, Sephiroth opened a path to the lifestream so the party can face and defeat Jenova (in her Harbinger persona). He needs a way to break out of Jenova's hold so he has no choice but to use the party. In Remake, until Jenova was weakened, he dares not to control the whispers (of Jenova) but only did it conservatively so Jenova won't notice. The best example for this is ---- Jenova want's to preserve things as it it but she didn't notice Sephiroth controlling 3-4 whisper to lock the position of Wedge in Remake so that when the plate fall, he will survive and opening the path for the party to discover some remnants of Deepground. The true Sephiroth didn't kill Pres Shinra in the OG, it was Jenova because Pres Shinra's lifestream was critical for concocting geostigma. But in the Remake, thru the true Sephiroth's manipulation, the party was able to arrive to the Pres Office before his death so just to implant to Cloud's resolve the feeling of a friend's death (Barret) just so he could strengthen Cloud's resolve to save a friend. He manage to have the cloud defeat (weakened) Jenova so now he controls the black whispers originally belonging to Jenova. Sephiroth is rebelling because thru the lifestream Memories, he learned of the CREATOR's realm and wants to go there. Unfortunately, the only way to get there is to hitch a ride from Omega - which means he has to saturate the lifestream earlier than expected. So he instigated (now and not in the OG) the war between Wutai and Shinra - to send a lot of dead people into the lifestream to saturate it earlier enough to activate Omega. His goal, contrary to his "Mother", was to activate Omega and collect the pure lifestream and send it back to the creator. - Aerith in the lifestream After death, she learned of the lifestream and learned her ability and responsibility within the lifestream - to purify the returnees and have them merge into the lifestream so new born can make use of the portion of that lifestream (ownership-free) and enriched it with new memories. Shen learns of Jenova residing in the lifestream, corrupting every returnee and turning them into black whispers, and she is unable to fight her directly so she purifies consciousness and turn them into white whispers to balance out the impact of the black whispers, She learns of Sephiroth's plot, like when Sephiroth went back to OG time line, she two did the same to stop him. Fortunately, in this OG timeline, Aerith has a body to occupy while Sephiroth can only make use of the clones. Unfortunately, her knowledge of the future, was slowly taken away by whispers. === To be continued == So sleepy :D

Great video! Oh how I wish your theories would come true. But what would also destroy me emotionally (in a positive way) would be an ending where Sephiroth is willing to become part of the planet of his own accord, so an ending where he finds peace but dies anyway. His hatred keeps him alive, or prevents him from becoming one with the Lifestream. I hope the story ends with him, and Cloud too, overcoming their hatred and starting to forgive. As Aerith says in her speech in the Temple of the Ancients. I had also wondered if the goddess's blessing might be forgiveness. In the Loveless play, Varvados says: ”What awaits you at journey's end I wonder. Will the Goddess grant you her blessing? Or will the flames of vengeance consume you." Maybe vengeance ("killing/omnislashing" Sephiroth, OG ending) leads into Advent Children, but forgiveness leads into this different ending that we don't know yet.

@@TheEggplantKnight Yeah, it really depends on how far they are prepared to deviate from the OG. That one interview with Kitase-san drives me crazy (and kind of destroys my hopes and dreams) in which he says: "We are finally going to link up with Advent Children, that is going to be part of canon," said Kitase. "The overall storyline, the developments, will not go wildly out in a way that will not add up to Advent Children in the end. I don't think anyone wanted that, that's not what we're looking to create here. "[But] to make sure it doesn't become stale and people know exactly where it's going, [that it] doesn't just follow the original word for word, we add in extra elements which add that little bit of doubt. Getting the right balance of that is so key. Ultimately, we're not trying to change the Final Fantasy 7 story into something really different. The overall balance wouldn't really allow for that anyway." (from eurogamer)

Interesting fact,when they were close to release the Remake,the devs told a question..."But...do you REALLY likes the way the OG ended????"....It means that,in time,they probably developed personally a more human and correct way to see things,less radical and more mercyfull...It's true,human race is a terrible race,but not everyone is beyond salvation,not everyone deserve extinction.The same point of view it's been adopted in giving a more deep,emotional credible shape to the characters...In this evolution,the devs told us that Sephiroth is one of them on which they did a greater job,showing clearly, at last, many elements that where already but vaguely present in his story and personality.So,yes,we can be sure that he will be among the protagonists in the third chapter,and,yes,everything is possible for this wanderful character that really deserves justice

Your theory is very interesting and one that I could subscribe to. You obviously thought it out quite well, of course a handsome dude like you ;) But seriously, I think there are definitely multiple Sephiroths from different worlds within the lifestream. I think since these are just worlds within the lifestream, will Nomura actually use the multiverse as in a parallel universe/timeline? I was excited after Remake thinking we would get an actual different timeline as opposed to world memory because that's what it is. If it was a alternate timeline like we once thought--- Everything would be different in Zack's world. I think Elmyra knew who Zack was especially since he dated Aerith for a few years, surely she spoke to Elmyra about him. It would be FF VII only Zack is now the main hero if it was the Terrier Timeline. They never tell us how the events in Intermission at the end where Zack goes to the church all cleaned up to meet up with Aerith are involved unless it is for something completely different which will be explained in part 3 which means it could actually be an alternate timeline-- but alas, it was probably preparing us for the beginning of Rebirth. I think Zack would have first secured a hiding place in Midgar and hid Cloud somewhere safe. Then he would have went to the church to look for Aerith and she may or may not have been there since this would be the same time Cloud would have arrived in Midgar. Zack would have prioritized reuniting with Aerith and told her everything that happened which would have been a day or two after bringing Cloud along in towe to Elmyra's house. Then the question would have been, how long would Cloud be comatose? Would he have recovered in a few days? Perhaps heard some news from Aerith about Avalanche and maybe Zack and Cloud goes to investigate and finds Tifa. (unlike in Rebirth, Biggs would not know who Zack or Cloud is). How would the Avalanche events unfold? Would Zack, Cloud, and Aerith help Avalanche or would they try to runaway to Gongaga for the time being? How would the Turks reaction to Zack be now? Tseng and Zack were professional colleagues and worked together with respect. Then there is Cissnei.... The events with Zack surviving in an alternate timeline would probably be dramatically different. I feel very confident Jenova would not be able to corrupt Zack and the reason is, I believe Zack is actually the hero from LOVELESS. Aerith would not be killed by Sephiroth, possibly he would try to kill others? Then of course Genesis, Deepground, Elfe, Verdot, and the other characters of the compilation.... the story would be much different but it would be interesting to see how differently they would turn out in this alternate timeline. I would be interested in reading a fanfic of such a timeline if one was ever written.

I believe the prologue of Loveless is referring to the goddess, Minerva. The first act is regarding what happened to Angeal, Genesis, and Sephiroth. Second act, “Hero of the Dawn” is Zack (Zack’s SOLDIER dream in CC and him featured on the Rebirth cover), “Healer of Worlds” is Aerith. Acts three and four could be referring to either Sephiroth or Cloud or both regarding Aerith since the poem is cryptic. However, act five is Cloud because of the promise he makes at the end of the Loveless performance and Aerith’s song, “No Promises to Keep” aligns with the poem. Act V Even if the morrow is barren of promises Nothing shall forestall my return To become the dew that quenches the land To spare the sands, the seas, the skies I offer thee this silent sacrifice -Loveless Poem Because Zack tells Cloud to save Aerith (those supposedly in the LS keep dying- Biggs and Wedge) and Sephiroth gives him seven seconds. The twist is that Cloud dies in the finale to save Aerith, ending Sephiroth/Jenova and changing the fate of civilization to continue on after 500 years. Part of FF7 continues to be a tragic love story- hence Loveless IMO.

@@Locustskies That's a pretty good breakdown, I think part 3 will give us the answers to almost everything in the meantime Ever Crisis will continue Sephiroth, Angeal, and Genesis story as youths.
