Carson was being a bully, and as we've heard so many times, one way to deal with a bully is face to face. If it came down to a fight, I have no doubt that Wayne would've destroyed Johnny. You can be an incredibly popular, rich, famous late night host, but that kind of gets set aside when you're getting punched in the face.

I believe it up to the Mafia stuff. Carson was a jerk. But nobody wanted to kill Wayne Newton (c’mon, really?) … except maybe audiences who paid good money to hear him sing, when his voice was gone.

Carson was must watch Television in the 70's for me.. too many negative comments about him before he passed away and after to dismiss. It was obvious watching him on his brilliant show that he had a huge ego

What Newton is trying to say in this video is that Carson had control of the mob in Vegas and could order mob hits there. This is not the truth. Watch the movie “Casino” which is based on real people connected to the mob in Vegas at the time. Where does that film say that Carson controlled the mafia in Vegas and the mob bosses in the Midwest and the Teamsters who funded the casinos. This is fantasy from Newton. Wayne is not telling the whole story which has been reported in the Las Vegas media. Newton bought the Aladdin Casino. Newton beat Carson’s offer and Carson felt betrayed. After this, Carson never returned to Vegas and that began the feud with Newton. The truth Newton is not telling is that the Aladdin hotel was controlled by the mob. Newton had friends in the mob who were trying to protect him from other members of the mob who were threatening him. This happened because Newton was in the middle of mafia business in Vegas.

No problem with Wayne Newton but this is one of those cases where either Larry King needs to ask a couple obvious questions or someone has to represent the other side of the story. Obviously the hit out on Newton sounds like BS...his reason made no sense.

Johnny Carson was a mean drunk, a chain smoker, and a difficult person in private life. However, his comedic is legendary, and I watch reruns of his show with great pleasure and appreciation. Do you know the old Hollywood saying? “If the public really knew us, they wouldn’t like us.” I’ve known a few major celebrities both here in the States and abroad, and let me tell you…

@@SunsetBoulevard111 Actually, most great comedians use writers extensively; for example, Johnny’s “friend” Joan Rivers. (Or they “borrow” other comedians’ material.) What the great comedic talents are best at is their timing (along with their stage personality and looks, of course.) But either you have good timing, or you don’t. Johnny was an excellent drummer, and his timing on jokes and retorts was second to none. BTW, I like watching the new comedians on YT. Some have fine timing (the good ones, lol.) But some have the worst timing I’ve ever seen, and the only laughs are from the drunks who aren’t even listening to the routine.

And notice that Newton waited until Carson passed before telling these questionable stories. Carson left most of his $80 million estate to charities while Newton cheated creditors out of $50 million and unsuccessfully tried to hide behind bankruptcy. Guess whose character was superior?

I agree w newton. Comedian's created this nonsense premise that they can say whatever they want and its protected. Im no fan of will Smith or his wife and ofcourse they would be the first to laugh at someone else being attached but i agreed w his reaction. Theres a difference btw making light fun and being mean or viscous. And if u choose to be ready to lose ur teeth.

Interesting. I just heard about this spat, when Carson's name came up in a chat, and I noted I am/was not one of his fans. Then recounted, that in 1980, in my mid-twenties and suffering horribly in the 'coffin', I'd wrote a letter to Carson expressing the excruciating effects of him routinely ridiculing men percieved as being homosexual, for easy laughs. There was no reply. Newton's revelations show not only that Carson was indeed a jerk, but just how badly American society viewed homosexuals, that even straight men feared its 'taint'. Men will, and indeed have, k-lled other men who cast upon them aspersions of being gay/homosexual. It is from where, today, we have the ubiquitous use of the word, 'sucks'; (now) meaning something bad. It went from "you suck cock", to "you suck", to "that sucks." Yet, how many so thought liberals use it without a care. It also has mysoginistic roots.
