The only thing this f* gringos brought to Cuenca was their f* desire for drugs Why don't you leave where you came from? Cuenca was a paradise before them.

So that era where you were "complaining" about stuff gave birth to your philosophy of accepting what is <3

I think it's possible to go too far with that philosophy...not that you are doing that. <3

If everyone always accepted what is, there would be no progress in the world. Much that is called progress really isn't. But some is.

I hope she learned the language and made an effort to make Ecuadorian friends. After three and a half years it is inexcusable not to better integrate. This kind of entitlement is why foreigners can't stomach Americans.

Skip and I were very good friends in college. It was great to see this legacy piece. The moral of the story is stay in touch with your old buddies…I always meant to look him up. A great guy.

entitled americans wanting to drive and eat beef. they probably should stay and fight for more socialism in the US rather than taking advantage of socialism when they want to retire early. very revealing interview. the biggest problem with ecuador is the expats it seems.

Once you live in Mexico and go back to the the states, your like a homing pigeon, you will return, attacking you, more like you will be attack on the dangerous streets of the U.S., A Tijuana Mexican police help me changed a tire and drove me to a tire store, so I could buy another one

“If you speak Spanish it opens things up 100%.” Really? If you move to a foreign country they speak their native language, who knew. 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤫

It's not just North Americans who feel everybody should speak English. When I was backpacking South America, all the Europeans were soooooo upset that none of the local population spoke English. Europeans felt that they'd spent so much time learning what they considered to be a 'lingua franca' that it was an affront to them that the local people hadn't met them 'half way.'

10% of expats try to learn Spanish. What a sad statistic but totally makes sense. The sad thing is that you really cut yourself off from full sensory experience of the world if you decide not to pick up the language.

It's fascinating to me the way some Americans think. Here is a guy that seems like a great guy, good head on his shoulders and he's worked his whole life. Salt of the earth they used to say. Worked hard all his life. Put his freaking life on the line everyday to protect us and to provide for his family and now he can't afford health care. And that is a damn shame. It shouldn't' be like that. But when someone does something to try and fix it (it's not perfect) he's been told by whatever news outlets or people he listens to that he shouldn't like "Obamacare'. So instead he moves to a country WITH SOCIALIZED MEDICINE and speaks about how wonderful it is. Sorry to harp on what was such a small part of the interview. This was a great watch. He seems like a very nice man and I wish him all the best in Ecuador. Thank you for making these videos. I really do enjoy them.

I really do not believe most of the stories of Expatriate that have moved to South and Central America. I was born in Guayaquill Ecuador in 1942 , I was too young and it was a different world then. But now being a US citizen I would never move to Ecuador ,Argentina or any other Country, my life is in America and that's where I will die.Today is a horrible life there, I think most of these Expatriates are doing this for money and have no intentions of leaving the US. But....that's my opinion!

I don't know what year you left ecuador but it's different nowadays, I left in1979 when I was 17 yrs old, I'm 58, retired from the federal government and flirting with the idea to move back either to Quito or Cuenca,

I am moving to Ecuador in a few months and cant wait.. I have done 20 years of solid research and speak Intermediate Spanish learning more every day.. I seek no comforts of America going there and am glad to get away from it all. I am also learning Kichwa sxo I can speak w the older Generation of Indigenous peoples.. If you dont want to do that and just going for the economical reasons you should stay in the USA as you will NOT be happy there at all.. Americans are in general ignorant as hell when it comes to other countries .. Unfortunately there are many in Cuenca who are spoiling the fun for others!
