Stevie, if you strip a modern engine with 3o thou it would prob be in a worse state . These engines were built to last .

Hi Steve. I would have gone down the same route as you have. Component condition and probability of re use. is a serious part of what is needed. On any reconstruction project. See you in the next one. Cheers. 👍👍

Yes Steve that engine will go again with no worries 👍 you will have to give us a update on Charlie tell him hello.

Double check the engine code as a lot of 1.6 are stamped 1.8 because they used the same castings , loving the vids on the scirocco
@graemecooke65127 күн бұрын
The 1.8 carb engine is a sweet engine,l had a 1.8GL scirocco about 20 years ago it was good on fuel too,around 90bhp when New!
@HomeBuilt7 күн бұрын
Ive only ever experienced the fuel injected mk2 golf gti's, never driven the carb ones. Last carb car i had was my Nova before it was swapped to a red top.
@graemecooke65125 күн бұрын
@@HomeBuilt The fuel injected engines were more fun,l did have a mk2 scirroco storm after the 1.8GL,it was a fairly well used Havana bronze one,I did get it to run well,it didn,t when I got it, l think it cost me £1350 in 1997,l wish I still had it I think I sold it in 2000 for around £800, but I did alot of miles in it!

Use the engine in question its original to the vehicle as you got it. Could be 1600cc engine block with 1800cc upgrade

Keep it original stevie put it back in and if someone else wants to put a different engine in later fair enough but keep as original as possible

The 1.6 engines had a 1.8 block so it may be an original 1.6 engine. This was the case in MK2 golfs 👍
@HomeBuilt7 күн бұрын
Cool, maybe it is the original then. I might see if the engine number is on the logbook and see if they match.
@TNDTutoring7 күн бұрын
I have a 1.8 carb engine in my 92 MK2 golf driver, engine code is a GU. It's 90bhp and I believe if you fit a 8v GTi cam it will bring it up to 100bhp as an easy swap when your that deep in. They fit to 1.6 heads too!

When you're drilling on paint, put tape on it. It'll save more of the paint. And I'm not saying it looks bad at all. It looks great, just a little chest to save paint.

The only trans fluid that should ever go in any NC MX5 transmission is Ford Motorcraft XT-M5-QS. These transmissions were co-designed by Ford and Mazda and work best using this fluid. It’s expensive, and sounds strange to put “Ford fluid in a Mazda,” but trust me… it’s worth it.
