On Monday I purchased 900 pounds of Golden Bosc pears for $200. Goal is to experiment with making a hard cider. Golden Bosc isn't the best pear to make cider with, but it was the end of the season and I had no choice. I've handed out probably 100 pounds to friends, family, and neighbors. Culled about 50 pounds. What is left should produce 35 to 50 gallons of cider. No idea if it will meet my expectations, but for $200 it is worth a shot.

Doing much better than my garden. My plants look good, but the weeks of 110F to 123F temps stopped any fruit from being set. The only things doing good are watermelons, Golden Delight yellow zuke, and some of the hot peppers. I just noticed that my first 'Indian PC-1' pepper had turned red - this is my go to for red pepper flakes as it is a nice heat without flavor.

We will not get any significant rain until after Halloween. Last night we had two foxes, a racoon, a skunk, and a cat trigger the video cameras. Two weeks ago I was awarded a gold medal at the State Fair for my Eisbock beer (Strong European Beer category). That puts my medal stack from the last three State Fair competitions to: 4-gold, 3-silver, and 1-bronze.

@@MaryBornforHealth 100F+ is easy to acclimate to when the humidity is closer to 10%, but this 110F+ at 20% isn't fun. We didn't get below 72F two mornings ago. It is 67F at 2:30am so it should keep cooling off this morning. Sleeping has been tough. I took photos of the mercury thermometer and the readings from a digital thermometer with my cellphone.
