Hi, a typical Malaysian who grew up and lives in Penang here. in mid 50's now, in my era when you were a kid the Mirages and crew at Butterworth were the epitome of aviation and you watch in awe as they passed by. Those music also brings back the good old memories of RRB ( RAAF Radio Butterworth!) which is part of my grew up lives in Penang as they serves the best of 70s & 80s songs! Had been immersed in career in aviation right after school till now and those growing up near to an RAAF base does play a role.

We were driving along a dirt track out in central Australia around 1970 and noticed something was coming up the track from the other direction. It was a low flying, Mirage III. As it passed over us, it did a crisp 8-point roll and disappeared in seconds. They were a site to see.

These were ex-Mirage instructors developing the 2OCU ab initio F18 course. Last Mirage course was 1986.

1985? Are you sure? I'm ex RAAF didn't we still have Mirages then?
@rodentflyingfilms78683 ай бұрын
Craig, yes we did still have Mirages then. These Hornets were the first ones the RAAF received in 1985. The last Mirage wasn't retired from squadron flying until 1988. This deployment at TVL was of Mirages and Hornets. I took the video.

BTW Al … the beautiful Lady I’ve been dating for the past 4 months mentioned on our first date, that her best friend was married to a Pilot … “I think his name was Barnes” she stated. I pulled out my phone & looked up one of our graduating photos … “Not this Dave Barnes ???” I asked. “Oh my God … yes … that’s him !!!” She replied. What a small world it is Al. Hope you & your family are all doing extremely well. All’s great on my end. Cheers once again mate.
