4:03 If fundamentalist "Christians" hate him, I'm all in! He must be onto something, "Most people live habitually as if the present moment were either an obstacle that they need to overcome to get to the next moment. Imagine living your whole life like that." SO TRUE "For some, religion actually still works." PRICELESS

Eckhart saved my life. I am not kidding or exaggerating. Seriously his works and books helped me out of the most devastating depression and anxiety. Love him so much ❤️

Dan says eckhart ripped off the Buddha in his book, but even in the report he says eckhart has quoted the Buddha. Dan seems like a really cool guy, but the things eckhart teaches people are incredibly valuable, I’ve even seen much of his teachings in practices like cognitive behavioral therapy. I’m halfway through “10% happier”, but it sounds like Dan should be a little more grateful that tolle opened up a new realm for him, and he shouldn’t be such a skeptic because it didn’t work for him after thinking about thoughts all day. Still a really nice read, do recommend it.

I think it’s possible that Tolle had a self-induced stroke that shut down certain parts of his brain while activating others. I can’t prove that, but it’s a theory.
@DjZeusZed6 жыл бұрын
yea it is possible. some parts of the left hemisphere when shut down allow the right hemisphere to take the stage and allow one to be in the present. there is a case of a neuroscientist who had this experience I forgot her name. after the stroke she forgot the past and lives only in the present very happily. also that's what a long-term meditation practice seems to do but not exactly of course.

When he first started describing his idea I thought, "yeah, but what if that stress from not enjoying the present is what's pushing me so hard, and if I quit feeling it I'll lose my motivation?" and then came the part where he was homeless for 3+ years because he just wanted to sit and enjoy the present. Adversity in healthy amounts produces growth (and so much more), but I'm not sure you can say that about the brand of contentment he's advocating for. A lot of people use drugs to find that peace - crack can have you living 'contently' in a beat up ass house with boarded up windows.
@KVonnegut7 жыл бұрын
No, it's definitely a pretentious name. But don't act like you disproved my point - you just crapped out a few cliched statements and called me out for my username. You can tell something is drivel when it's just telling you to do a couple decently worthwhile exercises that offer some benefit, but everything around those daily affirmations and mindfulness/meditation is worthless misguided filler that takes things way too far. If you want enlightenment, check out Alan Watts.

How telling is your "Ur so cool" as if this is for anything other than information and growth, like it's a contest. I wonder how you're stacking up in your little group's little intellectual caste system, like you have to rank up by one-upping each others regurgitations of YT videos with pre-digested ideas from names you've seen in other names' Wiki pages. Nah, I don't know. Good luck in future endeavors.

Why would we care what Dan Harris thinks? For that matter, why would we care what anybody thinks? One's opinion is exactly what it is: One's opinion. Which is to say it's meaningless. That is, unless someone subscribes to it, therefore confers it meaning.

@librazone you couldnt be further from the truth here. dan harris has released a book all about mindfulness and meditation and he still to this day thinks eckhart tolle is a charlatan. and so do i. dont get me wrong, i meditate everyday, practice mindfulness etc and used to be a huge fan of eckhart tolle. but what dan harris realised, as few people do, is that eckhart is undeniably amazing at pointing out what is wrong with you, how the 'voice in the head' controls you and how miserable this can all make one feel. what eckhart completely and utterly fails to do is point out ANY actionable things to do in order to combat this, other than to "be present". dan harris likens this to eckhart pointing out that your head is on fire and refusing to put it out. eckhart also, like many religions do, has an 'all-encompassing' ideology. it basically boils down to "if you disagree with me, well, thats just your ego and your ego is wrong". looking back i now realise eckharts teachings actually created friction in my head. he demonized the ego to such as extent it feels like you are in some kind of battle inside your head, it was only through actually learning about real meditation and mindfulness that i have been able to achieve anything related to mental health. it would be more useful to consider it from this perspective: use eckhart as a way of finding out how the mind has problems and issues but use an actionable practice in order to help yourselves. meditation is backed up by science and eckhart simply is not.

Leslie, I don't completely agree that Eckhart doesn't give us answers. I have read both his books and watched several of his speaking appearance . He is always telling us to take notice of the littlest things in your day, in the moment and observe the minute details and traits in the simplest moment. Leaves crunching under your feet, the smell of soap as you wash your hands, the warm water on your skin...etc. He points out that not only does this stop the mind from senseless thought and worry but it is itself a form of meditation. He speaks at length about this. How is that not offering a solution?
@Abr0225754 жыл бұрын
He does not demonize the ego. He says the ego isn't good or bad, it just is. And it is not the True you. If you try to qualify it or identify with it, that's just more ego.

The interviewer did have an ego, but he was also looking for answers. He had a panic attack on live TV before this interview and needed help. He eventually discovered meditation and wrote a book about his experience called “10% Happier”.

I owned a psychologist yesterday by showing her this video. After talking enthuastically about my awakening, I must have ”awakened” something in her as she told me that ”there is no doubt in my mind that this is psychosis”……. Thanks to Eckhart Tolle. Respect to those who have the courage to step away from the insanity of modern day psychologists and psychiatrists. This world NEEDS to change. Thanks. Thumbs up people!!!! Thomas C.
@yvettefelarca68927 жыл бұрын
I know it's a 4 yr late reply However It couldn't have been a Psychologist that you saw. They is Cognitive Psychologists and Clinical Psychotherapists. Psychologists are Neuroscientists or have a similar role to play. Clinical Psychology is a Metaphor for Clinical Psychotherapists. Mainstream Psychotherapists (Government bodies) are dumb as Fuck, all they teach is CBT AND NLP. they make you do the work...... they are more of a teacher or mentor that makes you do it, otherwise they refuse to work with you.........then they get paid for doing nothing..... noisy cunts just want to listen to all your private information, get dirt on you and shove you on drugs and shove you in rehab.

Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason, experience, and your own common sense.".~ Buddha Eckhart never forces his understanding upon anyone. He simply shares with those who choose to listen. And many do. If you agree with him, then you do, if you don't, then you don't. That's the end of it.

The media or anything that relies on pointing out the negative will have a difficult time comprehending his message. Its similar to teaching a dog to speak English. The dog will only understand certain words based on the way you pronounce them. This is the same when someone attempts to speak about the eternal to someone who is stuck in the man made ego mind. The ego mind will never understand the eternal consciousness until it takes the time to understand the ego as a whole.
