Thanks for this useful video! I am going to Iceland in early to mid February and our activities will include chasing the Northern Lights, Glacier Hikes and utilising Snow Mobiles. I currently have a thin waterproof North Face (dryvent) Jacket... and was going to purchase a Down Jacket to wear underneath to provide the warmth. Essentially I was going with this strategy as opposed to buying a Parka jacket. Wanted to get your thoughts if this would be suitable? We do plan to do a waterfall another day, but I was going to use Hoodies and fleeces as mid-layers for that day! Much appreciated!
@icelandcover17 күн бұрын
Hey! That sounds like a solid plan! Just means you’ll need more layers. Make sure to add thermals in there!
@Kursakichigo17 күн бұрын
@icelandcover Thanks for your response! Would you say more thin mid layers or base layers?
@icelandcover17 күн бұрын
Both are good, but thermals are always a great choice!

Hi, which pants are you recommending? Are they from Didrikson? Many thanks in advance! 🙂

Hey! Yea they are! Any outdoor pants that protect you from the wind and rain will do though! But we’re very happy with Didriksons

Good advice! I'll be in Iceland mid-November and already have some good clothes to take with me. I don't feel the cold much here in the UK, but I am 70 so I'd better be careful and wear some thermals!

Hello. I’m coming to iceland for 2 weeks in early November but haven’t booked anything. Do you think we’ll still be able to do so in the coming weeks? We’re thinking to rest a day after arrival then join an 8-day tour on iceland guide. We don’t have the proper attire for iceland since we’re from Asia, so I’m so grateful to have found your page. We definitely don’t wanna waste a lot on buying clothes for once. So renting is perfect for us.
@icelandcover2 ай бұрын
Great to hear that you’re coming to our little island! We recommend booking no later than a week in advance. If you do that, we will 100% have clothes for you!
@JvillajdАй бұрын
I’m going to Iceland around the same time. I booked the blue lagoon to start, a glacier tour midweek and sky lagoon before going home.

Do you recommend hiring a car in the middle of November? We want to go from Reykjavik to the south coast and Snaefellsnes peninsula
@icelandcover2 ай бұрын
That depends if you have experience driving in snow/ice. The south coast isn’t covered in snow in November, but there could be a day or two when it is You can expect icy conditions but the rental car should have winter tires by then. Don’t be afraid to drive yourself if you have some experience driving in the conditions I mentioned!

Absolutely! You could also check out the video for November but it’s very similar. Thermals, parka, outdoor pants and good hiking boots. Mid layers on the side should it get windy and you’re all set!

Are microspikes mandatory for some hikes in October? Or would you say they're not needed?
@icelandcover3 ай бұрын
Most of the time you won’t need them in October. It’s best to check once you arrive. This will also depend on the hike. Will you be going into the highlands for example? Are you crossing a glacier? And such things

Going end of Oct. Will wear layers whilst out and about/hiking. Would a baselayer be needed when only going to a restaurant?
@TheRealJBMcMunn3 ай бұрын
And if you do go into a restaurant while wearing layers, how do you not overheat? Start peeling off clothes? I can't picture eating while wearing thermal underwear, heavy socks, boots, a sweater, and outer shells on my torso and legs. I think I might wait until I get there, go to a local shop, and rent stuff. I live in Houston. I don't need cold weather gear as a possible one-time purchase. Those items aren't cheap, especially when you get into Gore-Tex and merino wool.
@icelandcover3 ай бұрын
Hello! When you’re in the city you won’t need a lot of layers. If you’re wearing a parka then all you’ll need is basic clothes underneath. Unless you plan on walking around a lot. Then thermals might be a good choice so you don’t have to take off all the clothing when going into stores. But you don’t have to over think it when you’re in the city
@icelandcover3 ай бұрын
Exactly. Which is why we recommend only wearing the parka. That way you can get away with wearing only 1 layer underneath. A sweater or thermals. Just take off the parka and you’re good to go!

We went on a cruise with 5 days in Iceland. I give a thumbs up for everything he said, wide range of weather. Some people came from Hawaii and were not prepared, shorts and Jean jacket . They got sweatshirts in the cruise ship store. I froze just watching them.

Thanks for the tips. Do jeans still fit in some areas for Aug/Sept or no?

Yes of course! But we don’t recommend that you go on your daily excursions wearing just jeans. They are not the best when they get wet and they don’t keep you warm

Thanks for the video! I'll leave for Iceland tomorrow and I have merino wool clothes (socks, shirt, t-shirt, leggings) in my backpack, also a hiking leggings, rain pant, fleece pullover, fleece jacket, rain/wind jacket, softshell jacket, gloves, beanie. Clothes in my middle sized case: two more hiking pants, jeans, pullover, (three) t-shirts, undies, more hiking socks, hiking boots. I'll wear jeans, Doc Martens and a shirt when I'll arrive and I'm glad I could put lots of warm clothes into my backback to wear them when I leave the airport. I think I'm well prepared. I don't think I'll need the t-shirts often, but it doesn't harm to have them.

Great video, this is perfect for some friends and I going at the end of July! Any camping suggestions or really anything cool outdoors to do, flying into Keflavik and getting a Dacia Duster.
@icelandcover6 ай бұрын
Sure thing! Camp in the west fjords and the north, you won’t regret it. We rent camping gear as well, so that’s something to check out. By camping you can do some cool hikes since you don’t have to travel the entire fay to get to them. Make sure to pick up a pamphlet or ask for advice when you pick up the car. Buy the groceries at Bonus and Kronan, they are the cheapest super markets in Iceland. We’ve written a few blogs about camping in Iceland. You can find them at the bottom of our website!
