Love the focus on Rey within your Star Wars collection. Is it me, or as a protagonist does she have way more of a collector following than Luke does? If so, why do you think that is?

@@shoeboxlegends thanks dude 🙏 Great question! I think part of it may be Rey is the active face of Star Wars, for this generation. Luke cards now may be sort of post playing days so to speak. I also think Luke does not have quite the level of cool factor…he is more of a classic good guy and maybe lacks a bit of an edge. I think Vader and Leia specifically also may absorb some of the collector demand for people who prefer to stick with the OT characters. Just guessing though! I like Luke!

Really cool non-sport submission as always! All the Snoopy stuff sent me down a rabbit hole of remembering a Snoopy video game I played as a kid. I thought it was Atari but it was Nintendo. Spoopy’s Silly Sports Spectacular. I found a play through on KZbin. It was definitely a simpler time! Haha My Dad has always been a huge John Wayne fan. I honestly never thought about looking for cards of him

You know I love this one!!! I’m not a huge fan of the original ‘66 design but it looks so much better in heritage and especially with a gold refractor. I knew these were /5 but still my first thought was /50 until you reminded me. Such a sick card

This was very enlightening for me to listen to, being an area that I’ve never really delved into at all other than a couple of packs of Magic cards way back in the day. I thought your musings on how you collect running contrary to how TCG markets fluctuate was especially interesting. Love the deep analysis of why you do what you do, my friend.

Thanks dude! Yeah man I love TCG cards, def have always appreciated the artwork and such. The selling aspect of TCG is difficult for me because it is so competitive with people who know far more about the games than I do and people who have far better instincts for demand. On the collecting side I like the dead card game niche because I feel it give me access to cool hand drawn art of some of the IPs I enjoy!

What a stunner and awesome it got the 10! I definitely think of you when I see gold /50 and especially with Ohtani and 2020. In my opinion the gold /50 doesn’t get diluted but elevates the importance and significance of the true topps chrome gold and even gold wave over stuff like Ben Baller, cosmic, etc.

Thanks Joe! I go back and forth on it...on one hand I agree with you...the true gold and even the waves look pretty good relative to some of the spin off versions. On the other hand I look back at 2000s football and see we can still buy hall of fame players finest gold /50 for players like Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Larry Fitzgerald, etc...for under a few hundred dollars at times. I know it is a cross sport comparison but back then a player only had one or two shiny gold offerings per year...and they are still available now at somewhat reasonable prices relatively speaking...so what can happen in terms of stagnation to these active guys who have 10 gold /50 offerings per year and such. Idk...hard to say but I think the main thing for me has been adjusting by buy in price...where in the past maybe I would be willing to spend 85$ for a true gold /50 during year of release for a guy like Betts and now ill look to pay 40$ or so. All relative I suppose. Thanks man!

I agree with you on the dilution of Gold /50 overall, there’s no doubt about it with the sheer number of them out there nowadays and growing by the year. I still enjoy them but I do wish they’d cut back (hah!). I hope to buy this one from you at some point in the future 😝 Loving the countdown as always, Jason! 👊

This is definitely a stunner of a card! The foil work is amazing. This is definitely a cool relic to hold onto. I agree with you about his vibes. As you were explaining it the best example I could think of was Ruth. Granted most already regard him as the best ever, but comparative to other players of the era he was just so larger than life and had all the accolades plus the stories. But yeah, Paige definitely talked the talk and walked the walk!

Cool card, but really enjoyed your thoughts on scarcity and balance, limited nature vs community enjoyment. I recently picked up a cool baseball card that is an X-Fractor but numbered, which I agree is not what you typically think. Great stuff as always man. 👊

Thanks man! It is wild when you think about it....a card /10 will not be worth much if only 3 people want it. But a card /100 can really shoot up if 500-1000 people want a copy! So many shades of grey in the hobby.

Thanks dude, yeah man the theme was basically turning to the 21st century so they did the chase version at /21...the base cards for that insert were also numbered to /2000 I think.
