Hey there, question. What can you do with an old house without grounded wiring ? GFCI outlets can be used to replace 2 prong outlets. But there's still no ground. So I'm assuming you can't use typical "surge protection" power strips (or likely no type of modern day power strip of any kind) because they rely on shunting to ground. Which a non grounded homes wiring doesn't have. Also, if the house doesn't have grounded wiring. Would a whole house surge protector at the service box actually still protect the home (I'm assuming no) ? It seems like the only thing I can think of as far as protection for a non grounded home. Is something like a "Zero Surge" product. As they filter through their built in capacitors. & are filtered back through the neutral once the charge has slowed down to a safe level. At least that's what they claim to do. So in that situation I'd have to assume maybe in an ungrounded home. Your only choice outside of a complete rewire upgrade. Is a GFCI outlet with a Zero Surge power strip plugged into it (pretty expensive solution still). Or is there another way to have protection in an non grounded home. Besides a GFCI + Zero Surge combination. Or just updating the whole home with a full rewire ?

How much force do you need to push the bulb to go back in?
@BJPoznecki
@BJPoznecki 2 күн бұрын
@@ShariDorst Well one of sockets the bulb goes in to should be spring loaded. Sometimes what you have to do is before you put the bulb in, is turn the light off, push that socket in and out a couple times to kind of loosen up the spring. Then put the bulb in. Sometimes you do need to use a little bit of force, but carefully where you don’t break the bulb.

Thanks BJ. apparantly I have an old troll a temp (honeywell) electronic system (1 furnace), dampers with 6 little motors, and 2 stats with the upstairs stat only functions/follows off of lower level stat settings of either heat or a/c mode. these are the old honeywell dial type stats and I would like to upgrade them for easier reading for my old eyes, dont really need programmable would just use manual setting but appears I need a stat that is designed for 2H/2C system I am thinking T6 or above. I understand I will need a common for 24v at stats to power them if I did not want to swap batteries yearly, but not sure how or if I could figure the wireing for the new stats. I know where the W, G, R, Y all attach but at main t-stat there is an orange AND a black wire also that have to do with the upstairs stat so not sure where I would attach them in a T6. or two of them if I swap both stats. thanks for any input I learned what my system is from your video.

Hi BJ, I am a new subscriber, and I'm glad I ran into your video. My question is, what if the dripping water sound is heard from the ceiling in my bathroom just above that square compartment (not sure of the name), and this happened after it had just rained. Would it be considered thermal expansion or possible leak in my roof? There are no physical signs of any water.

@@veeoby3364 Thank you for subscribing! Well, if you have an openable access panel, it’s always best to take a look and visually see if there’s anything leaking. Typically, if you have a roof leak eventually you will see water staining on the ceiling karma, especially after a sizable rain event.

One tip: The white threaded collar can be difficult to remove. There is interference between the front edge of the white collar and the front edge of the actual black valve. Put a screw driver under the rear of the collar where it touches the metal hold-down ring and gently pry it. It will literally just pop off. It may resist but, I have replaced two Kohler valves exactly like this and it worked for both....without breaking the white collar.

I am in the Middle right now. Its relatively close to the window i have two high powered Fans on It to get rid of the smell as well. I think the Fans Could be really important, especially if not close to the window. I am checking about 10 minutes and it appears to be working well, smell appears to be going away everytime i check. It did set off my smoke detector twice. Hoping its not a problem with the unit. I only had it on for about 5 mins prior, since it was installed and both times it set off the smoke detector. UPDATE: The Bottom of the Heater actually has an opening as well, and all the dust had accumulated at the bottom and i was able to just use paper towels to get rid of it I think a vaccuum with good suction could be a good strategy as well. The Dust that was burning, had gotten really hard almost gum like so i guess it just burns into a solid form then flakes and thats the end of the cycle, some of it wasnt burned to a deeper state yet. I say the whole cycle should take about 2 hours max.

@BJPoznecki
@BJPoznecki 21 күн бұрын
@@AchmatovaAnna I don’t fully understand your question. These style hose bibs don’t need a shut off valve inside the home. However, it’s not a bad idea to install a shut off valve that has a built-in drain port on it so you can shut the water off inside the house and drain the pipe from that shut off valve to the hose bib, so there is no water sitting in the pipe during the winter.
@AchmatovaAnna

@@BJPoznecki thank you so much for your answer. so, if i do not have a shut off valve inside the home dedicated solely to the hose bib, to get ready for the freezing temperatures, i just have to remove the hose and turn the bib off, and i am all set for the winter?
@BJPoznecki
@BJPoznecki 17 күн бұрын
@@AchmatovaAnna Yes correct. Be sure to remove all hoses, timers, caps, etc. The only time that I have seen them freeze is if they are right next to a dryer or bathroom vent. What can happen is the cold air can travel back into the vent freezing that area inside the house where the water pipe connects to the hose bib. If there are no vents near the hose bib you will be fine.
