Excellent instruction... I especially liked how you showed us the mistakes and waffles and how you came back from that that is the truth of pottery which I feel like so many videos don't show.....this was so helpful! I always have my wheel going too fast, and this is a great reminder to slow down breathe and be with the clay! And your plate came out so beautifully looking forward to watching more of your videos. Thanks again for sharing your wisdom and knowledge.
That is such a beautiful angel. Thank you for sharing how to make her.

How do you get it to dry evenly without warping if the middle bowl is not the same height as the plate sides? I really want to try this and love your video. Just nervous about the drying process.
@lakecountryfinearts89305 ай бұрын
If you use a stoneware clay with grog, the chance of warping is reduced. I made over 100 and had no warping. I dried it out slowly. I only sponged the bottom smooth instead of trimming it on the wheel. I hope this helps.

Sorry for the late response. I wire them right away and then a couple times through the drying process. I dry them very slowly to prevent warping and then sponge the bottom smooth when they are leather hard. There are other methods of trimming them when they are leather hard propped upside down on a chuck. It is much more time consuming but offers a more professional end result.

For this one it was just about 2 lbs. Bigger ones really should be trimmed with a foot.

I have an old costume jewelry cameo piece that used to have a chain I think. It was found while clearing some bins when I was spring cleaning. It isn’t very large, tho it’s not large by any means. Do you think it’s possible to fire the 3D cameo shape from a sprig mold made from the impression? Wow, I hope that made sense. I’d like to use a small mold made from the cameo so I can then add it to coffee mugs, jewelry boxes, etc. Something I’d love to do is have an imprint stamp to use on clay medallions with the words, Grey Lady Pottery written around a cameo I’ve run across online that has a mature woman with hair pulled up & a small butterfly in the cameo piece. I’d like to imprint them on a clay medallion then add it to mugs & maybe some jars. If it’s possible… I tease my husband with grey lady pottery. He teases me when my grey hairs start showing. Don’t think he’s fooling anybody. His once blonde locks are now more silver than blonde. 🤣😂

You can try pressing the medallion into some clay to get the imprint. I have done this numerous time. Just make the medallion dusty with dry clay dust so it doesn't stick to the clay. Fire it and then see if the imprint is clean enough for your liking. You can always clean it up and fine tune it if the imprint is not very clean. Good luck.
