First... this is an amazing tutorial. I can make shaders using Unity.. but I just started working in Blender for model creation. I usually use Umodeler. You are very knowledgeable and seem to have a grasp on the nodes. I am wondering if you can make a tutorial on making a shader that allows for multiple cutout textures on a single plane with some depth control. So that it looks like multiple layers, but it is a single plane. Kind of like a grass shader/material works... I made an example video here (kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp2ydKCCnLSZpLM) of what I am thinking about and wondered if you could help me get there? :)

Fairly understandable?! That’s an understatement right there. Thanks for this, and for keeping it in YT even though u don’t make content no more ❤

This is one of the coolest things I ever saw. I got some paralax rooms and was thinking about how this thechnics would work with a fool room setup. Some selfmade SCifi walls.

Thanks! For some reason the initial group didn't want to play with my object in my scene, no clue if it's something to do with 4.1. But you unlocked using the incoming value for me! I used it to effect mapping of a texture and it created a nice quick parallax!
@PedroHenrique-hw1go8 ай бұрын
How did you do that?

Tried to do this with a circle and it was a black void. (for an Trijicon Acog) edit: I forgot to unwrap it works now! another edit: doesn't support transparent textures

The effect is like a mirror displaying something across the room when looking at the mirror or the object is inside the square moved back some distance. Pretty cool effect. Thanks for the share. I wonder if you could use an image with a dot/something surrounded by black space and then use that image as a reflection map ? :O)

Очень круто, спасибо за урок. У меня возник вопрос, можно ли этот эффект каким-то образом вытащить в Unity движок?

Sheesh😅. After about an year, I found a parallex shader math that makes sense.

How would I use this in conjunction with the Mapping node? Say I have an Image Texture which I wanna translate with the mapping node first. And *then* I would like to add the parallax effect with the Parallax node group. Any insights?

I absolutely love paralax effects. The one thing I wonder however, is whether or not something like this could be applied to game-ready eyeballs (with textures)? I have never found anyone able to make that work in blender yet. Did you, by any chance, ever try something like that? ._.

26:46 - In this case, yes, they increase exponentially. Most people get this wrong with polynomials (which are not exponentially increasing, which can be checked by taking the derivative). But you are using the power node, so it's exponential by definition. 😄

Beautiful, you could even sell this as a customizable parallax if you made some scroller menus and added the option to change some textures, thanks for sharing, also please ramp up the volume next time, sometimes i could barely hear you on speakers and i dont use headsets because im afraid of hurting my hearing...

Beginner here, amazing tutorial man, despite the fairly big amount of nodes it was all relatively easy to follow.

Thanks for this tutorial. But I found out that it's no need to use so many Vector Math nodes initially. We can scale "Incoming" to negative value and add "UV" on it can do same effect, too.
@aXelRedfield Жыл бұрын
at almost every step you say "and the last thing we wanna do now" or "the only thing we wanna do now" and there are like 10 more steps left and you say that same shit in every single one of them and it pisses me off

This is by fair one of the coolest effects I've seen done. You explained it in depth and actually spent time on telling us why you are doing what you are doing instead of just time-lapsing and speeding through each step. So thank you! And can't wait to see what else you make!!

What's great about this tutorial is that it isn't *just* about making a parallax shader, there are all kinds of valuable nuggets to find, information that has a wider range of application than just faking parallax, excellent work! I'll definitely be playing around with this later!

If I want to fake the depth not in the expected direction but in some axis direction. Then what changes we will have to make. For example,, if there is 45 degrees tilted plane, and I don't want the effect to go in the normal to the plane (direction) but in the vertical z direction, what can I do?

@xetirano5685 Жыл бұрын
I suppose it really is kind of an edge case perhaps certain reflex sights, HUD's I've also just used it for reflections that should scroll across the screen quickly but also to fake depth outwards, say for some kind of hologram screen, or some non-euclidian type of optical illusion
