Is there a water temperature you would call too cold to fish for smallies?
@fishkrazed6 күн бұрын
Ehh… yes but no. Not because the fish won’t eat, but because if the water is extremely cold you’re probably not on the end of a 2-3 day streak of warm weather. A couple good days of sun will warm the water quick in the afternoon/evenings. I’ve caught smallies down into 35° water, but not in 32° water with ice flowing in the river. I think that’s where I personally draw the line is when ice is forming 😂

Just a quick tip for fishkrazed and anyone else using inline spinners. You can control the depth of your spinner with the length of your leader. The distance between your spinner and swivel. A size 14 inline barrell swivel in black works well. You DO NOT want shiny. Also keep your leader between 18" and 36". Thats inches. For a lighter spinner around 1/32 oz up to 1/16 oz start with 20" if you need to go deeper move down to 18". If you still need to go deeper add a small split shot to the main line just above the swivel. I prefer green tin egg shot from dinsmore in size 6 or 4. For larger spinners 1/12oz up to 1/4oz start with a 36" leader and adjust accordingly with the same method as above. The bigger the spinner the longer the leader. The shorter the leader the more depth. My default setup is a raven micro swivel in 3xs with a 24" fluoro leader in rio fluoroflex strong 5x/5.2lbs @ .152mm. I always use a split shot so to begin ill have a dinsmore egg in size 6. My leader will be tied directly to either a 1/16oz rooster tail or a 1/12oz mepps. I prefer single hook spinners. They get snagged far less and many waters around me are single hook artificial only. The sinker above the swivel will make your spinner swim flat. You never want your spinner to swim at an angle. Nose up or down. Youll have to play with the setup as far as leader length, split shot size, spinner weight, and line weight. Rule of thumb, heavier current means heavier spinner. Too big a spinner can spook trout. I use gold blades 90% of the time. On silver blades use either a black or red sharpie and add dots or lines. Red for ultra clear and sunny. Black for low light. Hope this helps somebody. Go catch em fellas and best of luck

Is the pointer your new favorite jerkbait?
@fishkrazedАй бұрын
I go back and forth. If the countdown is getting followed and moving fish but not getting any hits, I switch to the pointer because it suspends and can be worked slower and up in the strike zone longer. 🤝🏼

@@fishkrazed Thanks, I know the action is listed as extra fast , but doesn't look extra fast. How would you rate the action. Appreciate the feedback.
@fishkrazedАй бұрын
I’ve never paid too close attention tbh.. I’ll look for sure next time I go out. Just judging based off of feel it say the tip is extra fast but it also feels like a moderate/fast by the way it bends through the middle. Idk if I’d say extra fast for sure but it’s close. Lol

Beware- this lure will outfish all your other jerkbaits when it comes to presenting lures towards the bottom...lol! Tip- you can replace the treble hooks with #6 single hooks and it will not change the action of the lure like others will. Especially on areas that treble hooks are prohibited to fish with. On slow moving currents that come into a deep pool, try doing an jerk up and let sink action. This lure will also do a flutter action like a spoon as well. That brown trout color is a killer one!!!
