What truly gets me is the mother just doesn't fucking understand that if her plan actually goes right, she'll be left with a daughter who fucking despises them. There is no fucking happy ending for this family where what they're doing actually results in them getting their daughter back. If Kate lives, she will fucking ghost them as soon as she's old enough. She will not contact them ever again. They will grow old and die alone, the daughter they did all these horrible things to save hating their fucking guts and actively dancing on their stupid graves after they're in the ground. They are so predisposed with trying to save Kate at any cost they haven't even begun to process whether Kate hates them at all for doing this and it will cost them in the long term. They will end this story having fuck all. Exactly what they deserve for treating Anna like cattle.
