“In fact. . . . the drive-thru at your Starbuck’s will probably be called a ‘ride-thru’” just kills me - FLOORS me - every single time I’ve heard it I just crack up - for more than a DECADE!!!

As someone who is born and raised in Montana, I can say all of this is 100% true.

I lived in Long Island, NY, which is the polar opposite of Montana and I hated it there. If you want oppressively high taxes, stupid amounts of traffic virtually everywhere, no gun ownership, and rude, callous people who'd rather say "F@*! you" than "Good morning", then by all means, relocate to New York. A slower, simpler life in Montana with no speed limits can not be all that bad.

i keep people away by telling them the truth. in Montana, you can either be a multi-millionaire rubbing elbows with Ted Turnip and Kevin Costmore, or you can be poor white trash living in a trailer and buying day old baked goods. there is no in between. oh and.....second highest suicide rate in the Country, and a six month long winter. then i ask them if they've ever felt thirty degrees below zero.

I had a cousin who flew into Montana. Was picked up at the airport and said in the car, "I wasn't expecting paved roads!" Hold up... you thought we figured out runway science to land that big ass plane you flew in on but thought we got stumped with highway travel? Do you realize how big the state is? Most of us can't get to a job without highway travel. Where did you think the plane was going to land? That was a college education person. I am just a simpleton from Montana scratching my head while watching tv where all the cars go fast wondering how they got the magic ground underneath the cars. "Hey, where do we get the hard grey ground that connects one place to the other? Make car go fast!"

I sojourned in Montana for ten years, living both on the east (Yellowstone) and west (Kocanusa) coasts. I love the place dearly… and know it can kill me dead at any moment without even noticing the fact that I moved back to my home town in Oregon in 2001. "Montana, it'll getcha" is emblazoned on the state flag.
