It was 2010. I visited Gameline, a video game store I used to frequent, and that was when I first saw the Nintendo DSi XL. They had the console out of the box, the burgundy one, and on display in one of their display cabinet. I was amazed by the large screens. Several years later I bought a DSi XL, same color as yours, even though I already have a 3DS XL. I still have both and play them to this day.

Thank you for your comment! I wasn't around to see the display kiosk consoles for the DSi XL. But, I was around when the 3DS and 3DS XL were in their primetime and always remembered playing the demos they had them in. (Mario Kart 7 and Mario 3D Land where the ones I remember the most) It's great to hear that you still play them to this day. So many great games and experiences, that you can only have with these handhelds at the time. Also the home menus are more lively and had a soul (unlike the Switch (1) of what we have today)

I remember having being tempted to buy one when it was new, because I thought it would feel better in my hands, but I didn't because I thought that the screen must be blurrier when it's bigger. I didn't know much about resolution and scaling, I thought "The bigger the screen, the worse the quality". I actually bought a DSi XL quite recently and it makes me wish I did buy one all those years ago and played on that instead.

Well you bought and got one now. It’s definitely a nice console! Though my hands like the smaller console like the DSi. Hell, even the DS lite for that matter as well. But then I use the New 2DS XL because it has all the 3DS games that I would play, so it’s kinda ironic to think about. Even though that console is somewhat smaller compared to the 3DS XL or DSi XL.

As someone who's hands have become a lot bigger since the days the DS first came out, I can say I love this console. Great for playing the awesome DS games, with a better screen, and way more comfortable.

I love the DSI XL. To my mind it’s the definitive way to play DS games. At least to my taste it is - see, for a lot of people it’s a case of upside & downside: The general upside of the larger screen and thus easier to see action, but the downside that the pixelated quality of DS graphics is further emphasised. To me though, that’s actually also an upside. I love those crunchy old-school graphics. I find them nostalgic and distinctive.

Oh, also: All DSI XLs have lovely dual IPS screens. Makes DS games look tasty, tasty, very very tasty (so very tasty). If someone wants to play DS games on a larger display other than a DSI XL the only other options (at least for something resembling original hardware) are the XL 3DS models. But with those there’s just no getting around the image scaling process the 3DS has to apply to DS games to deal with the different screen resolution. It’s not hideous but it is a bit unappealing.

Finally (forgive the multiple comments; I love the DS, but my iphone doesn’t like posting long YT comments; I don’t know why). To answer your question: I have lanyards on all my handhelds that accommodate them, but not wrist lanyards, neck lanyards - which I find much more practical and effective. For me it’s just extra insurance for my electronic beauties, like translucent outer shells (of the kind I notice you have on your DS Lite - and which I myself also have fitted on the models they’re available for). I swear to you, the lanyards have saved my handhelds from hitting the ground on more occasions than I can keep track of. ‘Course, that might be more an indication of my own clumsiness than a lanyard recommendation. Great vids btw.

Dolphin is a great way to play Wii or GameCube games as it can do more than the original hardware. But if you ever just want to the feeling of playing on real hardware and don’t have a CRT Tv or a Wii U to play. This HDMI converter is definitely a good option to look at. Thanks for your comment!

It’s definitely one of the best HDMI converters I’ve had. I looked into this one as it seems like it recognises it well in OBS and heard nothing but great things about it. So I purchased one.

New 3DS or New 3DS XL. 2DS is extremely cheap and the buttons suck to press, New 2DS XL is just as cheap and very fragile.

@Jason-s7ek Ditto. It feels like a giant game boy advance - so comfortable to hold. And no hinge to end up worn out & flopping around like a dead fish. Plus it’s nigh on indestructible. I’ve got mine fitted with a transparent outer shell and this beautiful wedge would survive the apocalypse.

Yes. If a 3DS can play a DS game, a New 3DS can also play a DS game.

Personally, It’s alright. It’s definitely on the cheap side in terms of design and build quality that I will agree with. Tbh I’m also kinda indifferent to the 2DS XL as it does the job. But can definitely understand why you don’t like the 2DS XL. Thanks for the comment!
