Trust me, Dave...I look old and used, too! Great start...that engine was seriously GROTTY! Good thoughts from out here in the SoCal desert...

Fantastic, I'm looking forward to seeing your progress. I've rebuilt a few lambretta engines. It's much easier than a vespa engine, in my opinion. Can't wait to see the engine strip
@davetroman552719 күн бұрын
Thanks. Certainly very different mechanics in the engine and front suspension. Getting my head round it now.

Great news. I loved the last series. M1 scooter KZbin channel and kickback garage are good for references. I bought a px that needed work 4 weeks ago. Partly inspired by your videos.

Beautiful project with a beautiful result. I understand this is a passion project and that the total cost is of secondary importance. Would you be willing to share the total expense ?
@davetroman552728 күн бұрын
Thanks. Give or take a few quid, it's cost about £2000. That doesn't include tools, but I'll use those again. Does include all the paint, etc. Well worth it 😁

Thanks so much for these videos your scooter is looking great and I've managed to totally rebuild my PX125 engine with the help of this channel and others and 10:57 without bragging mine started on the very first kick! Now tackling the underside of the frame.
@davetroman552728 күн бұрын
Cheers. For me, the mechanics were easier than the frame/bodywork. Good luck.

Dave -- I am quite simply chuffed for you! Your scoot's a beauty, and I hope you absolutely ride the wheels off her! I'm halfway through a 70cc conversion on my '01 ET2 50cc scoot; fortunately, it's not taking me quite so long as it has taken you (well, no painting, etc. is involved, so I'm ahead of the game on that...). What's coming next?
@davetroman5527Ай бұрын
Cheers. Really loved doing this and especially trying new skills (some better than others 😁). The next project is even more exciting, just brought it and it's sitting in the workshop ready for the next restoration series. Watch this space 🛵 Hope your upgrade work well.

Hi Dave. Thanks for sharing. Always love your videos. This journey must have brought back so many memories of your UTMB journey's. Love the gloves by the way.

Thanks Dave - early September it is! Right - now off to convince the boss that it is an essential activity..... 🙂
@butch196Ай бұрын
Thanks for Part 2 Dave. I'm intrigued - what gloves do you have on, the blue pair - they look waterproof(?) Shame about needing to take buses, but had to laugh - no standing on the bus when in the tunnel - were they concerned you would catch your head on the tunnel ceiling? 🙂
@davetroman5527Ай бұрын
I get really cold hands (Raynaud's) so always carry some surgical gloves that I can put over normal running gloves. They are 100% water and wind proof but weigh next to nothing. You can buy 50 pairs for about £6 on eBay. Every jacket pocket and every pack has at least two pairs in.
@butch196Ай бұрын
Such a simple but effective solution Dave!

Great sequence of videos Dave. Has encouraged me to put the UTMB route on my bucket list (as a leisurely run Vs anything more serious... 🙂). Whilst you enjoyed the weather - it looked a bit grim for my fair weather tastes... are the conditions you experienced normal for the time of year?
@davetroman5527Ай бұрын
Thanks. Although it looks grim at times, we were never cold, even with just lightweight running jackets. Obviously, we carried much warmer clothing but didn't need it. The snow was more unusual. We'd expected maybe some patches of snow left from the winter but there was a big snow dump just a few days before we set off, giving us all that extra snow. If I was going to do it again, I'd probably aim for early September. The trails and huts are rammed during July and August, but will ease off a little in September. Hope you get the chance to complete the route.

I'll bet you I'll be as thrilled as you'll be once you get this scoot together! Great job! I just brought home an ET2 50cc I owned 7 years ago. The "interim" owner took crap care of her, so I've rescued her and want to bring her back. Not sure if I'll do any of it, or if I'll just hand it over to my mechanic. Either way, I'll be tickled to have her back on the road this fall!
