I completely understand not liking VS Code, I tried it for about a week and hated it. But I'm surprised you went from Visual Studio to CLion. Since you're going Unreal, have you made the switch to Rider yet?

Hey Robin, I'm checking in to see how things are going for you. We're eagerly awaiting an update! I, we'd love to hear your advice: What strategies have helped you stay focused and productive? Are there any pitfalls or obstacles you've encountered that we should avoid? If you want to stop, could you share any insights or tips on learning efficiently? (we deserve a goodbye) Your video was even more helpful and appreciated than you might realize. Your insights and tips on learning efficiently really made an impact. We're looking forward to hearing more from you soon! In short, we want advice from you.

I must say, It's kind of scary how you say (specially on the third book): "I haven't read it yet but is absolutely a must". My question is: how do you know that? You haven't read it and processed it. I get that a lot of people could say that, but I believe having you own judgement is far more important.

Good question. When I made this video I had read some of it, just not in full by any means, it is not a book you really read from start to finish, at least not me and Im sure not many others. It serves as a reference more than anything, especially because the code is written in Java and many of the patterns, though based on games, don't exactly integrate the same way once you start working in engine. Each engine is somewhat opinionated and you work within the means and standards of that engine. (I thought I would maybe clarify this better in a later video but I haven't had much time to make videos recently.) I also did/do a lot of research on game development, and from what I have read/watched/seen/asked, this book is a must. BUT, now that I have spent much more time doing game development, nearly every day for the last year +, I would move it down my list. I have found a WAY better alternative to this book. Thanks for asking for clarification though. You are 100% right.

Looking at the C++ book reminds me of a meme about a C# advanced book that only half the pages compare to a crash course C# book 🤣

Excellent selection! I love Master's of Doom, and I would also recommend Doom Guy by John Romero if you haven't read it already. It's a really good addition!

ALOT has happened since my last video, mostly personal but some work stuff, Ive honestly wanted to put another video out , but have been so busy. Maybe I should release an update video just to give a lil closure. I appreciate it! Just know I am still deving everyday!

Keep up the good work! I'm on the same boat (sort of) as you. I went to school and graduated 7 years ago in 3D graphics and game design. I work as a IT tech guy instead. I want to work for AAA studio or become full-time indie game dev.

I think Stephen Ulibarri's course is good if you want something that's fairly exhaustive, not just on the programming side. Once you are done with that and if you want to drill down on programming in C++ with UE, you should check out Tom Looman's course. That course is for UE4 but I i went through it with UE5 with just a couple of tweaks. The reason I like that course better for someone with a bit more experience is because Tom Looman knows UE coding patterns very well, he gives you exercises to finish yourself (with a solution once you finish), and his videos are short and to the point. The problem I found with Stephen Ulibarri's course (although that's a good resource as well) is that he hasn't edited down his videos to get to the point quickly and his coding is a bit sloppy. Nice to see you are still pushing forward with your development!

Hey its interesting you bring up Toms course I was actually looking into it recently. I think after I finish this one, I will make a small Flappy Bird clone and then try and find something more geared toward professional C++ in Unreal Engine. Ill keep this one in mind! There is also another course on Udemy, from one of the devs of Grip. I'm not sure if you've heard of that course but it also looks promising. If you know of any other resources I would love to hear about them! Thank you

Another book that I recommend to my students is "Think Like a Programmer - An Introduction to Creative Problem Solving". It's another one from no starch press, the same guys that published the C++ crash course book you have. It's not centered around game development but it's a really good way to build your creative skills using programming.

Really cool to see your progress, reminds me of when I was starting out learning to program 15 or so years ago. I was going to suggest some more learning resources but I think what you're using right now is pretty good. It's better to stick with a few good courses and work through them instead of getting bogged down with all the 100+ unreal tutorial channels and tutorials. What I would suggest is to start making clones of really small rudimentary games along with Stephen's udemy course. Games like pacman, pong and snake etc. Don't watch any tutorials and just make them on your own - even if the blueprints are messy as hell and it's not the most efficient code, as long as you get it working it's good. It's going to reinforce what you're learning, give you challenges that you'll have to problem solve through racking your brain, and also give you the feeling of accomplishing something on your own. I'm gonna watch the rest of your videos now :)

Thats the plan, I want to finish this course, just so that I know all the tools UE5 provides and my first game I want to make is a Flappy Bird clone. If you have any good resources let me know, I am always searching for the best info. Thank you!
