My PTK story: A few months ago. I was poked in the eye by a nail 💅! After a few days of pain I noticed moon shaped 🌙 distortions around light in the dark. I hoped it would go away after a while but it didn't. After a few weeks I got stuck in a cycle of reccuring corneal errosions for months where the original wound kept opening up. I tried bandage contact lenses without luck. I now had PTK 3 days ago and my moons are gone and the pain is manageable. Hopefully the healing process will be corneal errosion free!

Hi doc. I had a radial keratonomy 1992 now the scar tissue is getting bad on my left eye is blurry and hazy. Is there a possibility to do laser on my affected eye?

Hi there, Laser is a possibility but you must find out beforehand, whether the scar or the deformity which inevitably happens with RK is the cause. If the latter, laser surgery will likely give modest benefits only.

I can relate so much to this. I had a PRK procedure 3 years ago in April. I had perfect vision. I began noticing blurriness here and there and had a few bouts of dry eye issues on and off. Most recently, my brother passed away tragically this year in May 2024 and I began to slowly see a bit hazy and blurry. After multiple visits with the eye doctor and steroid drops and oral tablets it seemed to be getting better, but took a turn earlier this month of December. I’m going on 3 weeks of not being able to see from my left eye. It is very hazy and everything appears blurry or foggy. Doctor thinks it may be due to an underlying autoimmune disease and/or consequences of PRK. I need some relief.😮‍💨🙏🏼

Hello, how else can it be reversed? I had an appointment yesterday where a doctor had said CXL is now necessary. I asked for copies of the scans and she just laughed and said “they can’t be printed”… I asked if I could do anything try to stop the progression etc. since it appeared to be stable for a while… she scoffed and laughed again saying “it’s just the nature of the diseases”. Unbelievably sickening.
@DrAnthonyMaloof
@DrAnthonyMaloof 3 ай бұрын
Generally you cannot reverse keratoconus without surgery. You can however look to slow down or stop progression of keratoconus in mild cases. I am a big advocate of stopping people rubbing their eyes, this is always my first course of action. I only use CXL in a very select mild cases, this will again only slow down the progression of keratoconus. In severe cases, progression continues regardless of what you do. As with most medical problems, sometimes it is worth getting a second opinion - this will at least put your mind at ease, if nothing else. I hope that helps.

Hello Doctor, I scratched my left eye on 31/08/2024, I have corneal abrasion , my Cornea is healed now, I don’t feel pain anymore since 3 weeks ago. I consulted a doctor who has 32 years experience and he is a cornea consultant. Both doctors said I should use eye drops lubricant and eye gel. I used also eye drops which contain NaCl. I tried everything, both doctors said I need more time until the blurry vision goes away. One of the doctors said I might need another Lasik surgery , while the other one kept saying I just need 2 more weeks. I don’t think that the blurry vision will go away. By the way, I had 1 lasik surgery on my left eye in 2016. Please Advise me doctor.

@@DrAnthonyMaloofThank you Doctor. At least now I know that it takes time. Today is 21/10/2024, my left eye still didn’t recover completely. The cornea healed, however I still can’t see clearly. The doctor advised me to wear glasses for two months from now. Then he said he will apply laser to my left eye to make the surface rough. Finally, after 2 months from now, he said that he can do the laser/lasik to correct the vision. Before the incident it was -0.25, now it is -1.5

Is it normal that my eye with the recurrent corneal erosion is so blurry every time it attacks and when in pain? Erosion is like every other week, it becomes blurry then slowly my vision tends to improve very very slowly. Then erosion occurs again
@DrAnthonyMaloof
@DrAnthonyMaloof 4 ай бұрын
Thank you for your question. It's not uncommon for your vision to become blurry during a recurrent corneal erosion episode. The pain and blurriness typically accompany the erosion as the surface of the cornea is affected. After the initial discomfort, it's normal for vision to slowly improve as the cornea heals. However, frequent episodes like yours can be challenging. It's essential to follow up with your eye care provider to explore treatments that may help reduce the frequency of erosions and manage symptoms more effectively. Take care!

Thank you for this. Very comprehensive and reassuring. I only wish my own ophthalmologist was more forthcoming with recovery information. I mean, I know I needed this surgery. I know there are other treatments but they are less effective. I know I have needed this surgery for a long time, but they wanted to wait until I needed cataract surgery because I am a Veteran of the US Navy, and they have their reasons. At least I have had the surgery. I have hope that my vision will improve going forward. But they gave me no information about recovery other than, "Use these drops this many times a day for this many days or until we tell you to stop, and use these drops this many times a day until we tell you to stop. Take over-the-counter pain relievers for any discomfort. Wear Sunglasses." Not really much information about how long recovery was going to take. Your video fills in that gap. And yes, I am aware that by leaving this comment I reveal myself to be current in technology, which is an occupational hazard. I am a computer support and IT person. Somebody has to do it ...

I had DMEK surgery 3 years ago after suffering with Fuch's for decades (no pain, but lights against a dark background were surrounded with halos, and colors were dull). Best decision I've ever made. I was given basically the same advice and I followed it as faithfully as I could, and the results were great--both in the doctor's opinion and my own. I had an additional restriction: I live near Prescott, Arizona about a mile above sea level. I had to travel to Phoenix for the DMEK procedure, the nearest place that offered it. Because of the altitude difference, I had to wait 5 days before returning home--otherwise the bubble holding the transplant in place would expand and possibly burst with the change in altitude and reduced pressure. I don't like to think about that collateral damage. Even with that inconvenience, I couldn't be happier with the result. My corrected vision is 20-20, I don't require glasses to drive, and the best part is the halos are gone, and colors are bright and vibrant again!

Hi Jason. Fluid can seperate the DMEK from the cornea causing non adherence. This happened to every DMEK surgeon. I rebubble with air or gel if it doesn’t clear within 2-3 weeks. That usually fixes it.
