I have a P229 Legion, Elite Dark, Elite Scorpion and Elite Stainless. Love these guns. I have Sig Pro 1 on 2 of them when I purchased an optic ready slide from Sig. I also have a threaded barrel, Sig suppressor Xray sights, and a Streamlight TLR-8AG light/green laser on 3 of them. Going to have the slide milled on the Scorpion by Grayguns. Then, I considering the Grayguns upgrade to improve the DA/SA pull with a flat trigger. Go Sig!

I recently acquired the optics ready Cerakote version of this gun. For me, the only downside is the tiny slide release lever. It carries fine IWB, it’s crazy accurate, the recoil is very minimal. I see the DA/SA to be a huge safety feature.

When they offered this with the optic cut I got one. It's so smooth to shoot compared to my 19 or micro 9 pistols. I carry it. It's worth the weight. I also picked up the P220 Legion. It's a hoot.

I have never heard anyone that owns a shotgun say that they believe you don't need to aim a shotgun. that racking will scare an intruder or that shotguns are simple to run. Rather the myth is some people believe that some people believe these things.

I have the 226 and the 229. One thing I like about the DA/SA is the hammer. This is a safety feature. I feel like if you drop or jostle a striker fired pistol it is more likely to have a misfire vs a hammer. On the P229 and 226 if the gun is in double action and you push the hammer toward the firing pin with your finger you will notice it has a stop mechanism to protect the firing pin. The first pull is a long pull and takes 11 pounds pressure, so an accidental pull of the trigger takes a lot of effort to misfire vs dropping a striker fired pistol at the wrong angle. The best safety in my armature opinion is a DA/SA with a safety or SAO with a safety. Overall, I think the gun is a great design. I know often times the Glock is the benchmark. The Glock is a good gun. Competition in the market is fierce so most of the guns are good. However, I like the added weight for recoil control especially being a new shooter. I feel the extra weight is good to train with as it helps engage and train the muscle groups need to be a good shooter. Guns like these also retain their value better as metal is a more expensive market than plastic.

Interesting that you bring up the "Legion" marketing. It is a bit cheesy but stop and think about it. What is not cool about it. People who think it's not cool are not allowing themselves to have fun and subconsciously trying to be cool. It's a common problem with people in general these days. The too cool for school attitude. I love the tribute to the army. I think it is super cool and a sign of respect to the greatest military the world has ever seen. The same military that is responsible in many ways for the luxury's we enjoy as Americans. You should take pride in this yourself and the things you do in life and you should take pride in what that symbol represents. Thank you to all the veterans who have served this great country.

I agree with you about the slide catch. It's too small to manipulate easily. I'm going to see if I can install the regular P229 slide catch. Some say it won't fit, but I'm going to try. I also agree with you about the whole Legion brand. It's silly. I haven't even bothered to get my soft case and challenge coin. Challenge coin, LOL!

The PDP is one of those guns, where when you're shooting for accuracy, it's one of the best guns on the market...but the faster I try to go, the more I find that I don't mesh with it super well. I just shoot other pistols faster, and with less effort. This isn't saying that I can't shoot the PDP quickly, I definitely can, but I find that I have to concentrate harder on hitting all my bases than I do with say Glock, Smith, or CZ (don't even get me started on 1911's). I don't know if I will sell my PDP...part of me wants to just hold onto it as it's been a staple on my kit for the past 2 years. The other part of me just wants to bid it farewell, and move on to Smith or CZ.

I was blown away when this pistol came out. I watched all the videos and had to buy one. This is my absolute favorite pistol I own, and I have a few, lol. I have really big hands, so I went with the full-size grip. I put the 508T on top as well and put a Floyds Custome magwell and a TLR7A on it. I feel like this gun was made for my hands. This is my service pistol for work and shoot it a lot. It's return to zero is incredibly fast and easy. I love this gun.

I’m a little late, but you can get a Glock 17 gen 4 spring and guide rod set up from NDZ that’ll fit the 4.5 and 5” PDP. I went with the 13# set up and it definitely helped calm the snappiness. Don’t know if I’d Recommend it if you carry your PDP as once the weapon is cocked the lighter spring makes it easier for the slide to be pushed out of battery. For everyday shooting/range trips I haven’t experienced any malfunction from the lighter spring. They offer a 15# that would probably be the best of both worlds. My biggest complaint about the PDP is lack of slide lock on the last round, but that’s just my grip I suppose.

A comment from the country of origin of the PDP, from Germany, which I have already written about other PDP videos: As long as there is no version of the PDP with a manual safety, the PDP is just another unsafe pre-cocked striker-fired pistol with the inherent danger of getting a so-called "Glock leg" (this term is now also known in Germany = shot in your own leg) when putting the pistol back in the holster and something is unnoticed in the trigger guard in front of the trigger or your finger is carelessly on the trigger, no matter where and how you wear the holster. But if you activate a manual safety on the pistol before putting it back, that's impossible. Because of the danger just described, many other manufacturers now offer a version with a manual safety for their striker-fired pistols. Unfortunately, this is not the case with any newer Walther model, which is being criticized more and more, at least here in the country of origin and in Europe as well. Personally, I would not buy any of the newer current striker-fired Walther pistols such as the PPQ, PPS or PDP and also advise against a purchase for the reason described above. The only exception would be a P99 with the de-cocking button or with a DAO trigger.
@thearmedasian
@thearmedasian Жыл бұрын
Certainly fair points. Striker fired pistols by virtue of they are designed are inherently less forgiving of any kind of negligence or lapse in safety. But I would say that you can largely negate that by practicing safe reholstering techniques. I.E look before you reholster and don’t be in a rush to slam the pistol back into the holster. Fast on the draw, slow and methodical on the reholster. Just have to be careful. My thoughts anyways. Also shout out to Germany for creating some some of the best firearms to ever exist.

Per Walther the PDP is a little snappier due to having a stepped chamber. With this design regular 9mm ammo gains about 50ft per second more velocity out of the same barrel length vs it’s competitors.

I had heard the polygonal barrel also adds a bit of speed to it with less deformation and thus less drag as the bullet travels down the barrel. It would be a great test to use the same ammo in a bunch of different guns to verify this. 50fps isn't a huge increase, but it should be noticeable in energy. And I'm sure the difference would be higher the hotter the round.

Thanks-- nice review, as always. You mentioned it's snappier than other guns in its class: what specific striker fired guns would you say are softer shooters by comparison, and which model did you shoot-- the 4", 4.5", or 5" barrel? I would be curious to see this gun reviewed side by side with one of the Canik elite series models, since both this gun and the Caniks come with some of the best striker fired triggers out of the box.

Thanks for watching! I feel like the m&p, p320, and Glock all shoot softer. Dunno i guess it’s all subjective too. Mine is the 4” model. I’ve literally heard nothing but good things about the canik. I was actually torn between the walther and the canik. Ultimately I went with the walther due to longer track record but I wouldn’t look past the caniks at all.
