3:00 mark ……..had my engine doing the same thing… always 6 months in engine would warm up and milky ways would be on the stick As shown that scraper was the bad guy by the last guy ….. A had a groove just enough for a leak to push through.. Because of it … Had to Emery cloth the area and fill with weld epoxy . But hairline scratches made it possible..

Glad you solved it. So far no problems but I really haven’t driven all that many miles. I just take it on short trips to warm it up and blow out the dust. Maybe burn a little rubber. I need to pull the filter again but I’m a little afraid to do it.

Not sure in 1990, if engine was a Chevy 305 or a Olds 307.
@davebdave13 ай бұрын
The Buick was the Olds according to my vin number. My engine may not be original but I believe it is period correct. I think Caprice sedan still had the 305 but the Caprice wagon might have been the Olds 307 in 90, not sure.

I hated 1990 Full Size GM cars, because of the door mounted seatbelts, which were trouble some, you though you were in the car safe, and you could fall out of your car.

I suspect the hole in the roof may have had something to do with the chassis leg rusting out so badly behind the brake master cylinder...Generally, it doesn't look to bad for 30 years of sitting outside.

My dad drilled the hole for a CB antenna. We patched it with body filler but obviously it didn’t hold.

Made by the British Motor Corporation ( which included Austin, Morris & MG) in the year before they merged with Leyland ( which included Rover, Triumph & Jaguar) to become British Leyland. One of the major problems was that the marques continued to see each other as rivals every time there was a merger - even though they were part of the same company. This could lead to bad decisions being made eg the Triumph Stag engine could have had a much better Rover engine, but Triumph went for a poorer modification of one of their engines. Sad, because some of the products such as the Morris Minor were fantastic!

i have restored cars in worse conditions to this, but they were not morris minors lots of pieces to edge of sills or rockers you call it. front chassis legs for some reason seem to take on water make sure you have drain holes at bottom, to prevent rust from inside chassi in future. Veg cooking oil inside chassis legs preserves chassis also and is biodegradable, the oil evaporates and condenses to a sticky protection film lasts for more than a decade.

It’s repairable! Chassis wise & the engine I’d strip it down completely & send the whole engine into the reconditioners & have them wash the cylinder head &5(3 block in their bath to remove all the rust sludge & junk out of it! Even have the radiator flushed out!

That is a very nice 78 Trans Am you have. I have a numbers matching 1979 Trans Am SE 400 4spd WS6 car, AC,T-tops with black hobnail interior. I pulled the original engine and trans and put them in storage. I then built a Pontiac 455, forged pistons, Edelbrock heads, RPM intake, hydraulic roller cam, Holley 950hp and Dougs Headers. It runs really good. I installed newer style Sanden AC compressor kit and made sure my AC ducts were in the proper locations and tried to seal them up best I could but the AC blows really weak out of the vents. I put a brand new AC/heater blower motor in but that didnt change anything and is still weak. The heater blower motor I purchased was from Autozone and is the same blower motor for all the 2nd gen Trans Am/Firebirds. Does your blower motor move alot of air if so may I ask what brand?
@davebdave18 ай бұрын
That sounds like an awesome TA. I love the SE 4-speed cars. I have the factory blower/evaporator with an aftermarket Compressor. When I bought the car it didn’t blow very well out of the dash vents and the problem was the diverter doors. I added a vacuum accumulator and bought a replacement vacuum manifold on eBay for the dash controller as the original was leaking. I also blocked the crotch vent for the passenger (sorry passenger). That did the trick but now it doesn’t blow in high but I have a new relay that I hope will fix the problem. System is 134 and it blows reasonably cold.
@VegasRT5007 ай бұрын
@@davebdave1 Do you have some part numbers for that Vacuum Accumulator and that Vacuum manifold as I am not sure what those even look like? I appreciate your reply and if you dont have part numbers I will try to google those and find out what they are.
@davebdave17 ай бұрын
For the accumulator/reservoir I used a Dorman 47076, the Manifold is called a Vacuum Mode Control switch, can’t find new but here’s a rebuilt one on eBay. You have to remove the dash A/C control to change it. www.ebay.com/itm/402975995096

Everybody knows this. Whitworth spanners and nuts for the body and AF for the drivetrain.
@jonathangriffin11203 ай бұрын
Exactly, this is because the body and chassis were designed at Cowley, Oxford by Morris who hadn't gone over to the SAE threads by then. Alec Issigonis's original plan was to fit an all-new flat four 'boxer' engine but the bean counters at Cowley weren't having it so the existing Morris 'eight' series 'E' four cylinder flathead mill was used instead. When Morris merged with Austin in the early fifties to form BMC the 803cc Austin A30 engine became available so that was used instead going to 948 cc in '56 to 1098 cc in '62 which is what should be in your '67. All The Best from Somerset, England.

The "I don't know what this is" is the clamp for the spare wheel. The wheel should be under the boards in the back, on top of the fuel tank. If you look in the centre of the floor between the fuel tank and the "trunk" opening there's a visible bolt hole. The clamp bolts on there and pushes against the tread of the tyre when the wheel is in place.
@davebdave110 ай бұрын
Thanks! We’ll have to get that back in place when we get it back on the road. I used the spare often but never to swap out a flat. We used to take the Morris off-road and we’d sometimes get a drive wheel buried in the mud. We would then jack it up and lay the spare under a tire to bridge the newly dug hole and be on our way.
