Dear God. Thank you for your brave service Bomber Command crews. Today we can't get through a rainy day without the drama of a weather warning: how could we step up again if ever we needed to?

What gets me is that BRITAIN declared War on Germany, Then Britain moans and cries that Germany is bombing the crap out of them. Nun, Großbritannien hätte Deutschland damals nicht den Krieg erklären sollen, was haben Sie erwartet

My Dad was a pilot/navigator in RAF during WW II. He trained in Canada under the BCATP. He knew more about the Avro Lancaster than aviation historians or plane guides flying the planes to WW II air shows. He passed away in January 2015 at age 91. Part of the Greatest Generation, he is forever loved and missed.

Great movie, was emotional at the end. Love this movie, 10/10. One of my ancestors called Reginald who was likely stationed or based at RAF Full Sutton where his plane took off and was a flight engineer, whom was apart of the 77 Squadron during World War Two, - also a Sergeant as he was in the RAF. The plane was a Page Halifax MK3 registration NA545, he went to bomb an Oil Plant or something similar in Germany, Sterkrade as from taking of from RAF Full Sutton on the 16th or 17th of June 1944, the plane was probably shot down by a night fighter, he never returned and was killed in action. Nobody survived that crash as all the crew was killed in action. You will be truly missed and I also pay my respect to those others who died during the War. 😥❤

When I was a mother engineer I di som work in a garage in Hackney London and chatted with the mechanic boss . He flew lancs as a pilot did 75 missions married and a dad and was 18 years old ! The story’s he told me turned your hair . One mission every plane 12 in total blew up before and around them he said the feeling of death then a peace could be felt in the plane he knew that was it then some one on intercom said this is it skip , then another yes it’s the one every one knew they were going to die . He told me I told bombardier drop bombs were going home , the felling in that plane was unbelievable you could feel life return , we’d lost the hole squadron that night and no one made it to the target. He told me of shrapnel would come in through the plane past him over the engineer head as he bent over to adjust something and out the other side . Pices of red shrapnel landing on his jacket wile flying and burning through. He said they would pick up metal in the plane and no one ever got injured. At the end of the war he was in Germany airfield and ordered to fly a ju52 he told me he had this feeling of death and refused the co saying you can court marshal me but I’m not flying that and nether should you sir it’s not safe the co was not happy he would deal with him later and flew it himself can’t remember what was onboard but to say it lifted off turned and went straight in to the ground killing all . He said you just get this feeling and knew. That was in 1984 I’ve bee lucky to meet service men pilots and tank and the story’s ……

44.4584% Never returned, I wonder how many people of later generations, would take on a job with a 55% chance of survival. They were all truly brave and honourable men who took to the skies to take on such a task, and probably with only a few hours of training as well, for a lot of them. Regret that i had no interest in the second world war when my grandparents were alive, and never got the chance to speak with them about it, unsure even if they even would, as they had not really spoken to their own children about the war. One grandfather, gave his kids his medals to play with (as he did not care for them) and they got buried in their garden in the 50's my father told me. But i have at least got his commando knife, as he was in one of the first groups to sign up for commando training i believe, and I have an awesome 1st Pattern Fairbairn/Sykes Fighting Knife of his. My utmost respect to all veterans, you shall be remembered.

My father piloted Lancaster. 13 night bombing missions. Shot down Feb 44 on Augsberg raid. All survived thanks to French resistance but betrayed and captured. Rest of the war in camp in Folingbosel. Never talked much about it. Just did what had to be done. All heroes.

There were only two ways out the entry door when you enter the bomber located to the rear of the aircraft or the escape hatch near the bombadier. And in a tight confined space you have a slim chance to survive especially if the bomber is in a nose dive where the G force pin you to the wall

My Dad was a tail gunner, I have his log book, 300 miles on one engine, shot up by FW, etc, He was an Irish volunteer, ended up in the RCAF, flew one tour and a bit, a stint in the pathfinders, etc, came home to Ireland and treated as less than dirt. The tried for a time to talk about it but none was interested. Lest we forget!

I took my late friend who was a W/Op with 57 Squadron to visit the BoB Lancaster at Coningsby 60 years after he last sat in one. He sat in his crew position and I asked him if could he remember what in Morse code was, 3dits-4dits-2dits-dah. He answered correctly at once. Can you work it out.

My dad flew with 101 Sqn A Flight as an m/u gunner completed 32 missions over the March-Sep 1944 period. Flew out of Ludford Magna UK. The Sqn suffered about 50% casualties. I saw the book of remembrance in the village chapel during a visit to the village in 2015. My dad did speak of loading up the barracks boxes of the crews that didn’t come back on to a truck. The boxes were taken to Sqn stores to sort out personal kit from military kit. His Sqn was a special ops Sqn assigned to broadcast jamming noise on to German night fighter frequencies from their aircraft. That exposed the aircraft of their Sqn. Hence the high casualties.
