Your playing really makes Weiß sound closer to Bach, something not many players succeed at. This sounds a bit weird but i really think you know what a mean. It's a huge compliment to both you and the composer! Beautiful

why the lemons and the sea shell?
@Lutnista3 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for asking. Lemons and shells are very common in Baroque still lifes. Their symbolism, as far as I could make out, is complex and sometimes contradictory: the lemon, for instance, has a wide range of bitter-sweet connotations. The shell likewise can mean lots of things, from birth to resurrection, depending how you look at it.

Superb like always... Question: nail or flesh ??? Animal gut strings or nylon ??? And why is first fret soo big in comparison to the second one and third ???
@Lutnista6 ай бұрын
Thanks a lot! Re - questions: as a rule I use historical techniques and the Baroque lute was always played using flesh only. The strings are Aquilla nylgut and loaded nylgut for basses. There is nothing special about my frets. The first one is 1,2, second 1,1, and so on. Frets depend on the string action and every lute maker has his own system. I did not alter it.

@@Lutnista Is your instrument in equal temperament?
@Lutnista6 ай бұрын
Temperament is a long subject, not suitable for discussing on KZbin, but to simplify things one can say that it is tuned by ear (if you know what I mean), which results in some intervals being adjusted in comparison to equal temperament.

@@Lutnista thanks for your reply. I must say, my Nails are gone, it was a long way.... to do so , as a guitarist, but now, i am quite satisfied, plucking my luth just with Flesh, fingertips , and using historical correct Animal gut strings, which i Kind o Beginn to like. They have more mass,density, more to touch , Different vibrational sounding Charakter, maybe more groundtone than overtone, they make my luth resonate , in comparison to the very thin plastic strings which were installed when i purchased the Instrument. I played the Nylon for several years, but now i Made the step towards historical, and i Think its a winner... you just need more First strings to change.... My frets are i think equal, done by the maker, and i know, if i want a nice f Sharp for a Dmaj chord, i have to put the 1.fret a bit , but only for the First String towards the saddle. All the best , for you and all friends... Greetings, from Graz, Austria
@Lutnista6 ай бұрын
Gilbert Koller, Yes I like the sound of gut strings and I used to play them for very many years on both Renaissance and Baroque lutes (still use them sometimes). However my experience showed that in some professional situations gut proved not to be as reliable as I wished for, so this is why I often use Nylgut which if properly set can sound very nice too. All the best!

where can I find sheet music of this pl? Thank you
@Lutnista6 ай бұрын
There is no sheet music for this manuscript, I am afraid. Only original tablature. However you can find another version from the Dresden manuscript here: leluthdore.com/lutes/sheet-music/lute-and-theorbo/baroque-lute . Obviously it's in lute tablature notation as well.
