I love this car! I read a book in middle school called "The Red, Red Roadster" about an aging middle school teacher who traded in her big '50s luxoboat for a convertible version of this car. Super cool! What are the strap-like things on the rear suspension? Thank you for sharing!

Same! Loved being able to drive it as much as I did, though. Have loved them for a very long time and this was my first time actually getting behind the wheel of any E31, let alone an 850CSi.

Too painful to watch. You're not supposed to let go of the accelerator during shifting lol. Nice video other than that. Maybe re-take it. Cheers...
@DesertMotors21 күн бұрын
@@tonyglen33 You say that, but have you driven one? I believe it says to not let off during shifts in the manual and for all I know maybe you own one, but it’s not like modern dual clutch transmissions at all. If you keep the pedal pegged it shifts super slow and awkward. Throws you forward due to the power dropping so much. Shifts in probably half the speed by letting off the throttle.
@tonyglen3321 күн бұрын
@@DesertMotors Actually if I'm being honest, I test drove a 2008 and I'm picking it up at the end of March. Absolutely love the car. I only have 1 test drive under my belt. For the F1, you don't let off the accelerator when you shift. I'm sure I'll post a couple of videos this summer. Stay tuned and cheers!
@DesertMotors21 күн бұрын
@@tonyglen33 You say that but, again, it shifts much quicker and more smooth if you let off the throttle during shifts. It just does. With modern, current Ferrari (or McLaren, Lamborghini, etc) transmissions you just pin it and never let up and it shifts instantly with no hesitation or major power dip. That just isn't the case with these older F1 transmissions. And this isn't the only example I've driven. I've driven F355s, 360s, 550s, 575s, etc... There's a reason the manuals command a premium when it's an option.
@tonyglen3321 күн бұрын
@@DesertMotors I'm talking about this specific car and this F1 transmission. See pasted text from the user manual: Upshifting Operate the right-hand UP lever without releasing the accelerator pedal. In any event, it is advisable to: • Shift gears without releasing the accelerator pedal. Downshifting Operate the left-hand DOWN lever without releasing the accelerator pedal.
@DesertMotors21 күн бұрын
@@tonyglen33 As I already said, I know it says that in the manual. But in reality it just shifts better when you let off.

Truly is a masterpiece as far as I'm concerned. I've always wanted one. Thought I'd grow out of wanting such a car. I just turned 60 and I still want one and damnit, I don't care about it's versatility, or driving in bad weather, I have something for that. I haven't heard a throaty V8 since I was 19 with a Challenger R/T. I'm buying one. Cash. You can't take it with you. I've never seen a U Haul following a hearse. Damn, the engineers behind these things are brilliant. A $80,000 car that will run with $250,000 cars and look better doing it ! Yep, I'm putting out the cash and getting in a Vette !!

A couple of observations is that the car has wheel spacers so already the steering will "Feel" considerably different to a standard spaced car. Its a U.S spec car. The ROW / European model cars have more punch through the gears. This one has the G50 gearbox (transmission) which coincidently will make the car feel even slower because it adds an additional 50Kg of weight to the car. Every single 911 drives differently if there are any variations in changes changes to suspension (toe-in, camber, alignment), Tyres, gearbox type & power. Also they are extremely sensitive to weight on top of the other changes mentioned. The long and short of it is, drive a few
