I like everything about it except the clasp. It’s sort of baffling that they didn’t make it a push button locking clasp. Many friction clasps like that are on dress watches. Ones that won’t see any sort of violent action. Example: a Patek Calatrava with the clasp is fine to be friction fit. You’re not jumping in the water and you won’t be wearing it to work if you do something hands on.
@WristwatchDeepDive

Agreed. I am really not a fan of the friction clasps on any model. It doesn't seem like it is too much to ask to put in a butterfly button release. My favorite watch is my Omega Speedmaster 57 which has a push button clasp but only for one side!? I just don't understand why they would make one side friction and the other not? Still my favorite watch though.

I own a 116610ln Submariner date. It is the epitome of rugged elegance. The ceramic bezel resist scratches amazly well. The glidelock system is the bomb. I actually prefer the beefier lugs on the now discontinued model.

I love the blue dial too but I went with the chrome because I didn't want to have an entire collection of blue dialed watches and at the time I was buying more blue dialed watches. So I was trying to mix it up a bit. Of course with the blue dive bezel it still has a blue theme. I like the contrast between the blue and chrome too. Love this watch. I have dozens of watches from dozens of brands but I find this watch gets more wrist time than most. So no regrets. You can't really go wrong with Omega. Great brand with tons of history.

Was that date fix an early "April Fools" prank ? I didn't know that or ever seen that being done,so was it the hour hand or minute hand being moved?
@WristwatchDeepDive
@WristwatchDeepDive 4 ай бұрын
It is not super common but the date can get stuck between dates from time to time. This can happen with any mechanical watch. When it happens, often times just pushing the crown back in and pulling it back out to the quick set date position could reset it. In this case the date window was stuck in a way that pushing the crown in or out would not reset it. So you pull it out to the position to set the time and then begin turning it to move the hour hand through 12 o'clock. The date window will properly reset after you go through or approach 12 o'clock. I have seen this covered in many manuals of mechanical watches. Thanks for the comment.

I own and prefer 116610, because it's 40 and not 41, because has a smaller clasp, because it doesn't have those stupid bride to hold the movement, much much better the old style scew that have to be untighten to secure the 3135 to the case. and that's much pretty all

I agree. I purchased this retail and only got this over the 40mm because the 40mm (preowned) is more expensive than the 41mm (new) retail right now. I still look for a good deal on a 40mm from time to time hoping the prices come down now that Rolex is producing more and they've expanded their certified preowned presence. Love the video - thanks for taking the time to make it. Couple quick questions if you don’t mind: How much time passed between when it was new and when it started to have that much patina? And finally, if you wanted to take it back to the original color/look, could that be done?
@WristwatchDeepDive
@WristwatchDeepDive 5 ай бұрын
I have owned the watch for about 8 months. It had a tiny bit of patina already on it. I got it from a flipper on eBay so it's safe to say he had it for a while before selling it to me. It started to patina more about 2 weeks after I acquired it and it reached this level after about 2 months. I like the look but I'm certain that you can get it back to the original look without much of a fuss. Most collectors try hard to limit how many times they polish a watch because it can wear away the metal quite a bit. But that is with gold and stainless steel. I don't really know the process for more rarely used materials like bronze, ceramic, and titanium. My guess is using something like "never dull" wouldn't wear away the bronze casing but I would check with a mechanic before doing so. I'll add that question to the list of things I ask watch mechanics next time I go down to 47th street. Thanks for the comment. Please consider subscribing. I created the channel as an outlet to talk about my rather large collection/ obsession and spare my family from all the boring watch talk.

Lots of history and other info about Navitimer in this video, thanks for that! What I would like to see more about is the slide rule. It is the main feature of the watch, but often these review videos pass it by just mentioning that it can be used for various calculations. You, too, say that you're not using it actually. Well, here's a brief intro and a practical hint or two: The main point with the slide rule is that when you rotate the bezel, you are setting a ratio over the whole circle. For example, if you align 10 on ones scale with 20 on the other scale, you have set a ratio of 2, and it is constant everywwhere. 30 aligns with 60, 22 aligns with 44 and so on. You have to keep track of the magnitude of numbers though, as the numbers on the scale don't tell that: 22 on the scale can mean 2.2, 22, 220, 2200 or whatever with 22 in the beginning of the number. For one thing, you can use this as a handy currency converter. Say, if 1 USD is 3.8 Papua New Guinean Kin, you would align 10 with 38. Now you can immediately read all conversions! You can just read on the scales, for example, that 30 aligns with 11.5 (or thereabouts) which means that 3 USD = 11.5 Kin, or 30 USD = 115 Kin etc. It is not as exact as using a calculator, but it can be very handy as you don't have to type in any numbers. What about speeds? Let's say we have flown 180 miles and used 25 minutes for that. Let's use the outer scale for miles and inner scale for minutes. You align 18 (on outer) and 25 (inner) and what can you learn? You have set the ratio (speed), and you can read that at 60 minutes the number on the miles scale is 43, which means 430. So your average ground speed is 430 miles/hour. If your trip length is 800 miles, you see that it will take a bit over 110 minutes keeping this speed (80 is close to 11). And so on, you can see much of things just looking at the scales, you don't really need to think about multiplications and divisions in cases like this. And now we come to the accuracy. How good are the results depends on how accurate the slide rule scales are. I have never seen a reviewer check that, even though it would be a sensible and easy thing to do! Just rotate the bezel to a few simple ratios, like 2, 4, 5, 6, and check if the scales give you correct readings for these around the bezel. An expensive watch should have accurate scales, but I sometimes hear that even Breitlings can be a little off. I guess the slide rule is for most users just a decoration on the watch, but it should still be a useful instrument.
@WristwatchDeepDive
@WristwatchDeepDive 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment! This is great info. I have a website link saved that explains everything the slide rule can do. I am a retired US Submariner and in that line of work I had to use multiple tacaids that assisted with navigation, weapons employment, and target tracking. Some of them were similar to the Navitimer slide rule. Because of this, the Breitling slide rule holds a warm spot in my heart. Please consider subscribing and checking out my other videos. I have a rather large watch collection/ obsession and created the channel as an outlet to talk about the different brands and their history. It also spares my friends and family from all my boring watch talk. :)

No. Funny story. When I bought this watch at that unusual boutique in Tokyo they actually brought out the wooden box but when we checked the serial number on the box against the watch and we found the wooden box was for the Speedmaster. This was the box that had the matching serial number on the sticker. I do have the large wooden box for my Speedy. Not the biggest fan of the box that came with the SeaMaster but it is correct.

@WristwatchDeepDive 5 ай бұрын
@@jamess8175 That's interesting. I purchased this watch in Tokyo back in August of 2023. They had plenty of the wooden and these style boxes behind the counter. The serial number on the box matched the one on the card and watch so I am certain I have the correct box. I'm sure that AD's have given wooden boxes to customers that asked for it. The wooden boxes are a little nicer in my opinion. But I wanted the box it was meant to be sold with. In my experience buying watches from multiple AD's stateside, in Europe, and Asia, I find they are pretty liberal with whatever box the customer wants. The only time I've see strict adherence to box selection from an AD are for the holy trinity watches and Rolex. Boxes and papers are important but I've found widely different boxes being sold for different brands. Safe to say that if you buy new/ unworn from an AD it doesn't really matter what box they put it in because it is all authentic. I purchased a RADO in Switzerland and they gave me a choice of boxes to put it in.
