Happy new year! Wonderful to see pictures of the old 010 airport fire truck! In 1970 MM during my student days, I submitted an offer in a tendering process with Norwegian Army, to the sum of what today would be equivalent to 180 Euros, for whT I believed wa a 6x6 Ward la France heavy truck. I won the tender and travelled from Oslo to Kristiansand wit 3 drums of petrol and batteries, 500km. What met us was a strange, and probably the ugliest vehicle we'd ever seen. The contraption was an American la France, not Ward la France. She was fitted with a 6 cyl Continental, 4 innh exhaust with no mufflers but great sound, a Lycoming aircraft engine for foam , generator and central heating in all compartment. Like an apartment block, -and she drove like ine too. A small nightmare but great fun....

My mother and my oldest brother as a new born were in this bombing. The Brits accidentally hit the hospital that they were in. Air raid sirens started blairing and my mother ran for her life looking for an air raid shelter, but could not find one, Glass started flying through the hospital and she ducked into a warm concrete room for shelter. When the bombing ceased, she left the room and hospital section she was in was nothing but ruins. Others started coming out of the celler and were amazed they survived unhurt. The warm room she entered was the boilerroom, had one piece of shrapnel come through the door and hit a boiler, they both would have been instantly killed. Today my brother is 80 years old. My mother lived to 93 years. She had many harrowing experiences and hid Jews from the SS. She had PTSD for the rest of her days.
