About Manaphy egg, in MelonDS, go to config and disable "limit framerate" and "audio sync" options, also, if Pokemon game, or Touhoumon in this case, is player 1, go to config > video settings and disable VSync. Really Manaphy egg have problems in MelonDS, but with this options, the connection can work.

as far as i can tell I'm following the same steps as here but it just just starts a new game like there is no save on the gba side. even when i run the rom with mgba from the folder this saves a copy to it loads picks up the saves no problem. no ida what i'm doing wrong

Late, so idk if you figured it out already. But! You need to move your save file to AppData/roaming/Dolphin Emulator/GBA/Saves you might need to rename the file for it to work, there should be a brand new save file there, just copy the name and rename your main file to that.

I love the new sprites!! Good to see VGMStudio too, sometimes that's the only way I can get something to play after modding it into something. Excellent transcription too, even if the rawer/louder early Touhoumon style might suit it more.
