Theres actually a lot to do in Delft. The old and the new church are worth a visit. Theres the Prinsenhof, which was William the Silents residence, where he was infamously shot dead. Its a museum now. Theres lots of small shops and nice restaurants and cafés. And the university has some pretty interesting stuff, if you can get in. Theres a whole computer museum in the basement of the IT faculty. Lots of great architecture everywhere. And some really nice parks with lakes and beaches you can relax at.

What a gorgeous place to ride! Three summers ago my wife and I spent two weeks travelling around the UK by rail and we spent a lot of time up north in the more remote areas. Absolutely magical. Cheers, and thanks for the memories 🙂

Hi Ken, yes that was me on an e-bike (but mainly unseen in the film); they make me carry all the flap jack and everyone’s shoes, cravats and smoking jackets, just because I’m on the ‘Booster Bike’ Though Mike is also on an e-bike too! He just tells them all to carry their own gear or not bring so much. Maybe I’m just soft 🥵 Don

Why do all foreigners cycle with saddles far too low? This not just considerably reduces speed but it can permantly damage one's knees too.

Hi Michael, thanks. I use Garmin Basecamp to create the tracks and use the free Open Street Maps filtered for cycle touring by a German guy at Velomaps.org. The download both maps and tracks onto our Garmin Etrex 20 which is the ‘device’ we’ve grown up with! Hope this helps Don

You know, I hate how hotels just load too many pillows on every bed. One is enough for most of us. The other ones still have cleaned, I dump those on the floor the moment I enter a room. Think they should if many pillows are needed. 😂

The only touring I did in that part of Germany was when the wall hadn't fallen yet. Thus Lahn, and the overland trip from NL, and of course Rhein and Donau. That said, I actually liked the whole Hessen area immensely.

Lovely trip ! If you ever come back you might concider biking in the 'land of Maas and Waal' a very old area where you ride on very old dikes with immense widening landscapes. One of the world-wide unique landscapes of the Netherlands. And you might come across very old castels and fortified old towns. From west al the way to Nijmegen.

Hello, my name is Roland Leppek and like you, I produce videos on cycling that I post on KZbin. Most are vlogs of our bike tours in the US and Europe, but now I’m putting together a video listing many of the longer bike trails in Europe. I love your video of the Rhine Cycle Route and would love to include some short clips/B-roll. May I have your permission to do so? I would be happy to list your contribution in the credits and a link to your video in the description. You can take a look at my work here: @TheBicycleTourists Thank you in advance, Roland Leppek

@@OldButElectrified Fair enough. How long can you cycle before the batterry starts to run out? Do you get a full day's ride or do you have to call it aday after a couple of hours?
@OldButElectrified
@OldButElectrified Жыл бұрын
@@hughcards no, about 65 miles over roughish terrain and a bit of tarmac; my battery (625kwHr) always outlasts my rear end; ie: my posterior needs to stop for a coffee before the battery gives out. Electricity - it’s the future!

Glad you got there in the end....sort of. We are setting off in just under three months and these videos have been so useful for route planning. Sadly ours is going to be less sedate an adventure than yours I think. Is the book just on the GNT in Scotland or more general? And is there an England book as well?
@OldButElectrified
@OldButElectrified Жыл бұрын
Hi Out-Of, Thanks for the encouragement. I also rode the English third but it was on an unpowered Vitus Nucleus and as I decided that my unique selling wosname as a writer would be ebike touring I didn’t include it, merely alluding to it in the book. (So no separate England book). Covers only the ride along GNT but includes lots of other stuff which hopefully makes it more readable and entertaining. Good luck with the ride. Don S

Hi Lee, ha, yes hydration was always by water or juice. I hope no one truly believed we refueled with wine and beer only. (Though sometimes we ran out of water and had to stop at the pub - tee hee!). But god point Lee. However, we did find that it was important to maintain a relaxed attitude as we were on holiday and in no rush. Good luck for July, you’ll love it! Don S😊

I stayed at the Old Stone Trough a few weeks ago, riding from Long Preston down to Hebden Bridge. For the time of year and with luggage on the bike I found some of the tracks quite hard. Thanks Gordon, It was partly because of ‘battery anxiety’ that the other two ebikers in the group went the shorter route on the main road. I ended the day with only 1 bar left in my 625whr but there was a lot of climbing. We always made it and never had a problem charging, though I was glad the battery came out the downtube easily. D
