Been trying to find a fix for this problem for over two years. Was just about to throw this in the garbage when I came across this video. Took a chance on paying $5 (c’mon, honestly, what did I have to lose?). So glad I did. Absolutely worked 100%. Wish I had done this years ago. What are your thoughts on slow pitch rods for blackfish? I haven’t tried it yet but any people say the rod action is too slow for proper hook sets. I love slow pitch for sea bass but wonder about tog.

Have you tried a different computer, SD card or SD card reader? I would think that is the culprit.

@@TheBentarm a gaff often brings more mayhem to a small area like in a kayak when you gaff a pelagic. That is why I often leave the gaff and bring the Hawaiian spear.

Thank you but not a harpoon...it a a Hawaiian pear with no barb. The fish was actually alive all the way until it was on my lap. I have footage of eye movement and if you see him underwater, you can see he is alive. Belly up due to pressure. Thanks for the words brotha.

Notwithstanding the amazing effort of bringing this fish to the side, I dont agree with the need to kill it, by so slowly dragging it out inch by inch. It deserves more respect than that, and some good gopro shots would have provided all the bragging rights you needed for a lifetime. Dog Tooth is not even a good eating fish, rather cut it free before it is totally exhausted...that would give the best feeling in the world!

I somewhat agree with you...the fish was brought up from (probably) over 1000 feet deep as the initial hook up was at 700 and then he went further down for hours. The barotrauma suffered by the fish was way too much and there would not have any way to equalize it unless I sent him back with a cinder concrete block. This is not a marlin that can self regulate in a blink of an eye but I seriously doubt he would have survived. I never expected to hook such a fish and definitely not prepared to handle a successful release. Thanks for the input.

Could you please make a quick video for a step by step guide on how you slide the dead squid on to your lure? I understand how the mantle/fins would attach to the lure but the body/eyes/tentacle portion of a squid just seems too small to go around the head of a lure so it sits funny instead of sliding all the way down. I've improvised by cutting the eyes/tentacle portion of the squid off and just use the mantle portion which sits nicely. Either way, thanks for the video.

I it’s just the hood of the head…the body, tentacles, eye portion will be at the side of the lure if that makes sense.
