I agree Hazel's character could have been more relevant. Producers didn't do well in that aspect. I think she felt some type of way the last episode of season 5, she tossed her graduation cap in disgust. It was sad. Knew something was up.

Someone made a good point that Degrassi made an attempt to be a racially-conscious show while also being colorblind in their writing. They ignored the matter of race until it’s time for a “very special episode” about racism, ironically the only storyline the Hazel character really had and it didn’t even end in a satisfying way either. It’s confusing how they had such diverse characters but the minority characters were never taken serious and barely had plot lines. The Hazel character should’ve gotten more spotlight and developed her more instead of her just being a hang on next to Paige or Terry. They tended to gravitate towards stereotypes and make minor characters out of non white cast members. Other characters like Chris Sharpe, Kendra Mason, Chantay (her last name being black was crazy to me).

I literally felt like this when I went to a baby shower. I had a really bad case of imposter syndrome so much so that I was ready to leave. I stayed and after talking to my mom I realized that I was just in my own head

OH MY GOSH! I just have to say "Thank you so much" ladies! As I'm here taking out some old braids and prepping to do a headshot (and asking myself if I should get a headband wig for it as an actress/musician who does more edgy looks for my music performances).... this video comforted me and made me feel less alone in the process. I've had so many similar experiences as the ones shared here. Thank you deeply for this video. I laughed with y'all, got some good advice/ideas, and related. Saving it.

All of these black women are amazing! I found this discussion because I was watching Lena Waithe’s videos, love her! Issa Rae I love her too! To see their growth 10 years later is phenomenal!

I'm late af watching this video cause like a weirdo, I recently legit went all the way back to re-watch Degrassi: TNG. There was a lot I missed cause I stopped watching after a while. Now I'm like looking up to see what's up with you all now. And no, I will never have closure in ever 😅 I love the original cast so much. The cast after you all were interesting but there's nothing like the original 💖

I felt like, When Terri left, that it was so sad. Then, maybe, in the end it lead to the whole Rick plot that ended up in Jimmy's shooting and afterwards all the rejection toward Spinner. I also hated that Hazel never had her own plot, I think she has a lot of potential. But that also happened with many characters and I don't want to believe there some discrimination (but I do believe). For instance, Liberty also lost a lot of her importance, her brother was missused, there was an Asian girl in season 9 that literally just said like one line in the entire season, there were a couple of afroamerican actora that played two love interest for Emma, Also with low importance.

Loved that video clip, for me it's not Drake but Jimmy😅. I loved your characters. I hope you can make a video together pretending you are Hazel and Terri, catching up with each other.❤

I started my KZbin Channel because of the book and got to drinking water daily (yeah!) AND got back into traveling solo. I enjoyed the book because she writes in her own voice, funny, ranting, and honest. Thanks for the upload-appreciate it.

Would see you on TV growing up and I want your opinion as a black cast member, let me get this straight Rick shoots Jimmy in the back with his eyes closed and shaking the gun yet immediately after in the next scene Sean wrestles the gun out of Ricks hand what sense does that make both characters of Sean and Jimmy were athletic Rick was in arms reach of Jimmy with his eyes closed yet the writers wrote him to run and Sean to be a superhero 😂😂 growing up I watched the show with my mom every week on teennick rewatching now going down memory lane just reminiscing on my childhood and the racism in the show is pretty obvious that’s the biggest example with Rick shooting Jimmy yet Sean stopping Rick now as a grown black man that bothers me if the writers were gonna shoot someone why did it have to be the black man and why in the next scene the guys that’s not black becomes this superhero that’s wrestling firearms out peoples hands smh… would be dope if you a degrassi alum could share your thoughts on this a black women
