This is the kind of newaza training we did years ago in Judo here in America, then, IJF started pushing standing techniques and ground work was discouraged. Referees would not give you time to work holds, chokes or joint locks and the turtle became a lot of competitive Judoka's favorite defensive position when on the ground. Then came the Gracie's, bjj, ufc, mma and Judo powers that be realized that if they didn't want the art to die they had better get back to teaching it, rather than, the watered down sport version they were concentrating on.
