interestingly enough this would never happen in any other Commonwealth Realm because Australia is the only one with an elected senate that can challenge the government if it does not have a majority of senators. The realms either have a fixed government majority in the senate e.g. Canada and Jamaica or they have no senate at all e.g. New Zealand. Australia is the only place where the governor-general can get away with such a bold move

Whitlam had the right to do what he did - he was elected with policies. It is something which the Coalition never achieve. Their ambition is to exploit the status quo, so they make negative attacks to get elected. The acceptance of The Dismissal proves most Australians are bloody idiots.

Rupert Murdoch dictates public sentiment. Why was there dead silence from the Murdoch Media for a full week prior to the dismissal of the Whitlam Government ? When a Monarch sacks a democratically - elected government, that is not a minor issue. DO NOT BRAG ABOUT IT! - It was a bloody disgrace ! Whitlam was not elected without policies. His policies received the popular vote.

Notice how the reason the Co-alition was so anti-Whitlam is not explained? Gough was a Soviet fellow-traveller who sold thenation out to Pakistani money-launderers in addition to the Soviets. Gough was 100% pro-Allende in Chile, because he was ANOTHER Soviet asset who wanted to give Chilean Naval bases to THEM, directly threatening Oz. Great move Malcolm!

While there is no definitive proof that the United States directly orchestrated Whitlam’s dismissal, declassified documents and circumstantial evidence suggest that the CIA and the broader U.S. government had an interest in his removal. Here’s what is known: Why the U.S. Might Have Opposed Whitlam 1. Anti-American Policies: • Whitlam was critical of the U.S. military presence in Australia, particularly the Pine Gap intelligence facility, a critical joint U.S.-Australian operation for surveillance and communication during the Cold War. • He questioned Australia’s subservience to U.S. foreign policy, including its involvement in Vietnam. 2. Leaked CIA Connections: • Whitlam publicly revealed sensitive information about the CIA’s operations in Australia, including the role of former Australian intelligence officers as CIA assets. • The U.S. government feared Whitlam could jeopardize intelligence-sharing arrangements or even expel the U.S. from Pine Gap. 3. Cold War Concerns: • Whitlam’s government had a more independent and left-leaning foreign policy, recognizing China and supporting anti-colonial movements in the Pacific, which alarmed the U.S. during the Cold War. Evidence of U.S. Involvement 1. CIA Involvement Claims: • Declassified documents and testimonies suggest the CIA viewed Whitlam as a threat to U.S. interests. • Former CIA officer Victor Marchetti claimed that the CIA had encouraged opposition to Whitlam. 2. Role of Governor-General John Kerr: • Governor-General Sir John Kerr dismissed Whitlam using his constitutional powers, a highly controversial act. Kerr had close ties to both the CIA and U.S. officials. • Kerr consulted extensively with Sir Anthony Mason and others, but some allege he was also in touch with U.S. intelligence about Whitlam’s policies. 3. NSA Documents: • In 2020, declassified U.S. National Security Agency documents revealed U.S. anxiety over Whitlam’s actions and discussions about Pine Gap, further fueling speculation about U.S. involvement. Was the U.S. Directly Behind It? There is no concrete evidence proving direct U.S. involvement in orchestrating the dismissal. However: • The U.S. likely applied indirect pressure, including diplomatic and intelligence communications, to undermine Whitlam’s government. • The dismissal itself was executed domestically by Governor-General Kerr, not by foreign actors, but U.S. interests likely played a role in controlling Aus politics.

The GG acted rightly. Whitlam could not pass the budget. He had bankrupted the country. He tried to borrow millions from a shady financier for which Whitlam's son took $1.5 million commission. Whitlam and his government were deeply unpopular, another official ground for dismissal, as the subsequent election showed.

@ThaMassDebaterАй бұрын
@edthebumblingfool nothing to do with resisting Pine Gap? Some interesting info has come to hand recently that the CIA did have a role. I'll take it on face value that Whitlam didn't have the numbers, but if the American s themselves are now admitting they were involved, it beggars the question of why didn't Whitlam have the numbers? Could there be a nefarious reason like the US wanted a government friendly to their own in power like we have seen the CIA play out in many other examples. You can't deny the role that the CIA has played in foreign government coups right?
@sentimentalbloke18516 күн бұрын
Yeah, it's a conspiracy theory that LW nutters have pushed for 50 years to cover the fact that Whitlam was a dismal failure in office & not particularly popular with the electorate.

It's not generally known, but Whitlam had the Speaker of the House write to the Queen asking her to dismiss the Fraser Government, cancel the forthcoming elections and re-appoint Whitlam the Prime Minister. The Queen replied that she could take no action - the matter was one for Australians to resolve, under the Australian Constitution.
@edthebumblingfoolАй бұрын
as is correct, If you have the majority in the house you are safe lose that and have a vote of no confidence an election will be reuired and a caretaker government with the approval of the house appointed.

I have to say that that election was rigged, possibly the only one that ever was in Australia, I was there ,everybody loved Gough Whitlam and we were all shocked and horrified for what they did too him, it's no coincidence that Pine Gap is still there, he brought our lads back from that terrible war in Vietnam and gave us Medicare, many other great things would have followed if they had only given him the time to make this country truly a great one, Malcolm Fraser was just an imperial puppet with Great Britain controlling his strings, we would definitely be a Republic by now if it wasn't for that political assassination be it a non lethal one,

That says it all.

@@edthebumblingfool Since WW2 there has not been a Great Labor Prime Minister. Some have been simply better than the rest and all have been below par. Sadly, since Menzies the Coalition can only claim Howard as a real PM as a true Conservative. NO Labor PM has upheld the principles of Labor (working class). All have been ideologists and fraternised with the wealthy as their friends. Apart from some aspects of their childhood there is little or nothing working class about them.
