I vividly remember you in Portland… I worked at R.A. (Recording Associates) in the B room in the late 70s, early 80s. I remember the song you recorded there, You’ve Been Gone So Long… that you played for a while in Sand with Jack Charles (Meussdorffer), etc. Your writing style is fun, unique, a bit off-kilter, while being very enjoyable. I hope that life in Spain is treating you well.

@@BeatnikStrategy Thanks Attilio! If you saw a photo of me from back then you may recognize me, you may not! You had a lot of music connections at that time in Portland and I was more of a studio person, doing more technical work than engineering, even though I engineered for a while... a LOT of RA demos. I hope you're doing well in Spain. I'm in the Phoenix area in Arizona now... love the winters here, even though the summers are brutal.

Listen closely , Smokey it is smooth out front , but it's Claudett who is really holding it down , she knows exactly when to switch keys, she was the heart and soul , of The Miracles

It's a good song but I did not care for this remix. I did not appreciate the cut of the coral part after the second verse. It really spoils the drama the song is trying to relate. It sounds cheap. Not a good edit.

This is a great track - I can definitely hear the Byrds influence. I would love to hear one of your remixes on it. The bass and vocals sound perfect but you could bring up the guitar and drums and brighten them a bit so they aren't buried in the mix. Congrats on the SunDazed release!
@BeatnikStrategy6 ай бұрын
Thanks. That would be great. I might try that. The recording studio was pretty primitive.

Smokey mentioned once in an interview that he wished his voice sounded different I think he said more soulful). Had it, he likely wouldn't have had the singing career he had. It's UNIQUE to him and he should embrace it!

Actually it was probably The Fabulous Wailers At The Castle, a live album. And they were actually from Seattle, I believe, whereas Paul Revere & The Raiders were originally from Idaho of all places.

one of my favorite bands from my youth, saw them at various teen dances around Seattle. Keyboardist Don Galucci was an original member of Portland's Kingsmen, but couldn't go on the tour with them cuz still in school. Don and The Goodtimes version of Jolly Green Giant is a not so tongue in cheek dig at The Kingsmen. Original lead guitar was Jim "Harpo" Valley before he joined Paul Revere and The Raiders
