As usual, mower manufacturers making cheaper material, economical riding mowers for the poor folks!!!! Then they sneak in their defective parts in, and force the poor schmo to go to the dealer, or force the poor schmo to buy a $500.00 POS part. The car industry is the same way, with their economy POS cars. Ford: Focus, Fiesta GM: Cruise, Spark, Aveo, Terrain, Acadia Stelantis/Fiat: Dart, 200, 300 Yes, you read that right: the 300 is no different: smooth & sweet looking ride, but the reliability on that car is absolute garbage.

This exact issue happened to me with the same transmission. Thank you for your video because it helped me out so much to find the issue

First off, this was the first time I have ever tried to fix any bottom end engine issue and I had no idea what I was doing. Thanks so much for this video. I watched several others but this was the most helpful to teach me this repair for my Craftsman 21 hp mower. For others watching, the one issue I had after I complete my repair was that all the tipping and rotating of the engine during the repair put oil into the cylinder and when I put it back together and went to start the engine, the compression was still through the roof! Luckily I had someone who helped me diagnose the issue and simply removed the spark plug and cranked the engine over until most of the oil spit out. Replaced the spark plug and cranked it over. It smoked for just a few minutes and now runs like brand new! Also, I purchased the parts from ProParts Direct as well. Thank you, Thank you!!!

May I suggest that instead of spraying the sealer on the sump flanges, spray the gasket and then put it on the sump to avoid getting the adhesive inside the engine.😮😊

Those plastic transmissions should be banned for good. Thry actually cost more to repair than aluminum ones.

Based on the amount of possible "dead" transmissions discussed in these comments, I'm hoping that someone might want to sell me a Primary Variable Speed Drive Pulley for my Craftsman 19.5 HP 42” LT2500 Lawn Tractor. (Sears Craftsman Model Number 944.602630). As discussed here in 2009 (for this one year only) Craftsman decided to use the problematic (plastic) General Transmission (GT/Gentrans) RS800 Transaxle. The tag attached on the transmission reads General Transmission 415663 (87007 C4) and 415663C0100033. It is a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)) and not a hydrostatic drive.

The very WORST part of the job is removing the old gasket. Engine body is 16:25 aluminium so you have to be very careful with your scraper. Painstaking work.

I have watched a bunch of these videos on how to replace the cam with the compression release on them, but my question is, are the new replacement release pins built stronger (thicker) so they won't break as easy?
@billsimpson6046 ай бұрын
I doubt it. Some people start it by blocking the air intake with their hand after turning the engine just a little bit past the compression stroke. Get it spinning with the intake blocked then take your hand off & it usually starts. The broken parts usually sit on the bottom of the engine.

I think all the parts are made the same if the Briggs part was so good it shouldn't have broke so a cheap brand part will work if it breaks ill be taking it apart a few more times

Broken compression release arm on the cam shaft. That is the pieces he's taking out of the pan with the magnet in this video, the little arm he showed is the release.
