Dedicated scrap yarn user here! Double or even triple stranding the yarn can be a big way to refresh colors you don't like, crocheting rugs and heavy duty tote bags are also popular with this method - or you can use it to crochet baskets to put your yarn in! I also love crocheting scrappy hats, scarves, and tote bags - which can make excellent gifts! Small scraps are great to use for stuffing, which is usually what I do to colors I cannot hope to use up or rehome. If something exists like it in your area, seeking out fiber-crafts groups and seeing if they want to take any of it off your hands is also a great option. Hope this helps!

Yes it does thank you 😍 A rug or a tote bag sound like something I'd actually get some use out of!

My suggestion…if you don’t like the yarn color, donate the yarn. If you are not inspired by the yarn you have, donate all of it and start fresh with intentional purchases. Life is too short to spend time on things that don’t make you happy! Don’t feel bad about the cost of the yarn…the money is already spent…just be more intentional moving forward.

I keep some (most) of my gauge swatches. Especially if it’s yarn I will probably buy again. I refer to them when I try to choose yarn for a project and when I order new yarn… and sometimes as a gauge swatch for a new project (but don’t tell anybody… you’re not supposed to do that 😅)

In terms of what to do with the gauge swatches: I've seen people make small bags. Don't know if that's your style, but I know ravelry has a pattern called Swatch Bag by Skaberglæde Maria if you need inspiration. Personally, I just unravel them and use the scraps as stuffing for amigurumi. Best of luck :)

Try 9" circulars (or magic loop) for socks. I have made many socks, but would never have tried if I had to use DPNs. Also, I strongly recommend the crazy sock lady 's sock tutorials and patterns. Happy Knitting.

Thank you! I worry that 9'' would still be too long, no? Everyone is recommending the Crazy Sock Lady, so it's pretty much decided that I'll make my first socks using her videos 😁

For substitutions, Wool, needles, hands has a good video where she goes into things that I didnt hear about before like type of spin/yarn construction and how it can affect the fabric along with more general pointers on substitution as well. The channel untwisted threads does pretty detailed reviews and comparisons of yarns, so you may be able to find some of the yarns available to you there and how they compare to other yarns Otherwise, or if you've already seen those videos, I find that knitting a larger swatch than usual (about double) lets me compare the look and drape of the fabric to the sample photos, as well as a more accurate gauge measurement. This doesn't really help when shopping, though 😔
@nikabrantt7 ай бұрын
Ohh thank you thank you, will check those out! Also doing a double sized swatch sounds like a really great idea, i'll definitely try it out for my next project 😍

Thank you for your inspiring and very informative video. I stumbled upon it and did not regret watching. Regarding socks, I’ve been knitting since 2001(probably before you were born) and I’ve yet to knit my first pair of socks!! But I’ve just gotten my first socks pattern this second, now….from handmade by Florence or Florence Miller on ravelry. It’s her petal drop socks and you could get it for free. Includes KZbin video, it’s knitted using two circular needles. It has cables too 👍best of all, it is suitable for beginners. Another thing I’m curious to know is, are you a loose knitter? If you are, I would recommend you trying to go down a needle or two sizes and you’ll avoid holes in your knitting. Another thing I want to say is, don’t avoid colourworks, they are the easiest and really fun to do, if you don’t mind a bit of fiddling with twisting yarns. Not anywhere a lot as when you try to knit intarsia or fusion knitting. Stranded knitting is easy and fun, just remember not to pull on the yarn too tightly at the back. There was a lot I want to mention but I’ve forgotten it now. Anyway, happy knitting. Ps: you have achieved more in knitting in a short time than what I’ve achieved in two decade so big pat on your back 👏 I still dare not venture into that cardigan by kutovakika or done any brioche or lace knitting 🤦♀️😂

Thank you so much for your advice and support!! 😊 And Petal drop socks look absolutely lovely, I hope you enjoy making them! Yess I think I'm a loose knitter, I usually try to downsize but I find it depends a lot on each designer and their personal tension? And you can definitely definitely do those hard-looking projects like kutovakika's cardigan!! I'm sure they would turn out lovely, I'm rooting for you! Thank you for your encouragement 💗

IMO you should get a set of DPNs to try when knitting small-circumferences ie socks. You might prefer the magic loop (which requires a really long circular), but I found I often prefer the DPNs, especially when you get to the toes and heels where it’s very small. IOW give yourself the chance to experiment.

Lovely idea! This video was recommended by KZbin. For color work, Porcelain Sweater is not the easiest, because I heard it involves purling with colorwork. Twinkle by Midori Hirose is a great beginner friendly color work pattern. Good luck 👍 Btw, hello from Seoul, Korea! 😊

I agree, I’m making the Porcelain sweater now and it was a slog. The charts were a bit confusing, the pattern layout also not that cohesive and there were no schematics, just a few measurements given. I’m not new to colour work but this designer was new to me so perhaps I’m just not used to her style of pattern writing. Also be aware the pattern photo is a jumper shown with more than the intended ease of the pattern. I wish I’d taken note of that before choosing my size based on the suggested ease in the pattern.Regards, Mel from New Zealand.

Hello from San Diego, I just watched the Norwegian Knitter making her Porcelain sweater and the Camisole #9 both good choices, I knitted 2 Salty sweaters from Kika, they were really easy to knit, I knit my socks with 5 DPN, its easier for me since I grew up using them, DRK knits has a lot of amazing sock patterns, and Purl Soho has really awesome patterns for socks, most are free, I also made the Sofie scarf, from Petite Knits, another great designer, highly recommend

whats the name on the pattern for the scarf your boyfriend did "steal"?
@nikabrantt8 ай бұрын
I'm so sorry I got the pattern on Korean equivalent of Amazon so it's in Korean only... 😢 But it was basically just a long rectangle knit in double stockinette stitch (I think..? I'll try to find the pattern at home and confirm this) and then the end is folded and crocheted together to make a loop. Hope this helps!!
@nikabrantt8 ай бұрын
Just checked, it was knit in rib stitch (1 knit 1 purl) all throughout! And then after binding off I folded the scarf to make a loop and sewed it together using the remaining yarn end from bind off 😊

You can knit socks on circular needles you can always use magicloop on every pattern even if it dos not say. If you do this you split the stiches in half instead of in 4. hopefully this will help you

I love vests cause I wear a lot of blouses and shirts with collars and then a vest / short sleeve top over them. Or you could wear a thin long sleeve or turtle neck under them. I wear this combo a lot in Fall here in germany were I live. This is not too warm indoors but keeps you cozy on your upper body outside with a jacket over it. So for me vests are really fun as a layering piece and they add colour and texture / more interest to my outfit. 😊

I knit socks with magic loop circular needles. I don't like double pointed needles for some reason :/ Socks are fun :) I don't know how much experience you have with colorwork but I would start with socks which have only a colorwork part on the top, not on the whole sock. Your tension can vary when doing colorwork and make the sock a bit tight and until you figure out that part, that would be my advice in order to not have socks that are too tight :) and that don't take too long. For example : On the fence socks by Anna Lange or Fannrem Sokker by Ninja Chickens (those are DK). I haven't done those myself but they are free. That being said, I adore the Christmas Chaos Socks and have them in my favourites thanks to you and if you do them, I would love to see the result !! For the textured sweater, have you considered also by Petite Knit The Storm Sweater or Moby ? Also the Gema by Joanna Ang, or Phaedra by Audrey Borrego.
