Mine can have occasional issues. It will turn on fine the first 10-15 minutes after a cold engine start. Once hot, I have to hold down the On button for a few seconds to get it to set. Sometimes it takes a few tries. Its possible my new sensor is already having issues, but I haven't dug into it.

Did you happen to spray brake clean on the new rotors to wash off the packing oil off? That may have been a contributing factor to your rotor warpage. Thanks for video though. It was still helpful.
@Soladaddy2 ай бұрын
hmm i dont think so. I did wipe them down with a wet rag to get the dust off.
@kellymichael73622 ай бұрын
@@Soladaddy Yeah, unfortunately brother they may have been the cause. Not saying that it was, but I do believe that the pads will glaze if the oil is not cleaned off the rotors. New rotors have to have brake clean or some other similar cleaning agent to wash off that oil, before assembly, so as to not cause functioning issues. Thanks for the reply and good luck brother.

Water pooling by the flange.🙋🏽♂️ Misery loves company. Too bad modern plumbing technology doesn't match up with most 15+ year old sinks. Mine is well over 20 years old.

My sink is 24 years old and having the same problem around the drain. I have the old drain and the lip is considerably thinner than the new ones, hence the pooling of the water. I am going to hit some different plumbing supply houses and see if I can find a thin lip drain.

Looking at the 916. Is the UV9G much better for the extra cost? Really like your videos.
@Soladaddy2 ай бұрын
Thank you. The 916 is solely setup for GMRS and to me has no issues with intermod in high RF environments. The 9G has many bands, color screen and 2 receivers. Its a lot if just using GMRS on occasion although the twin receivers is great to have. Can scan with one and then keep the other on a primary freq. The 916 has most features wanted in a GMRS rig, has a larger, less tinny speaker which I really like, the screen can be seen in full sunlight and it feels more durable. Its a tough call.

I don't use MURS really. I guess I could, I just haven't really. But I do use GMRS and they make a single band GMRS (or 70cm if you want) that is made with smaller ladder line but is a full slim jim not the trapped lower section of the dual bander. So it does benefit from the "folded dipole" in that the emission pattern is changed. It directs the radiation pattern more level with the horizon instead of upwards at whatever degrees. In practice you get better horizontal radiation. Disclaimer --> I don't know I'm not an expert but this info is what I have learned from my Internetting today.

I was tempted to get the GMRS only Slim Jim, but at the time was using MURS a bit more.

I reversed the order of drawer to avoid those tabs on the slider-drawer altogether. Empty the drawers first. Especially the top one for this method.... I clicked the tabs on the inside of the metal rails of the big (lower/main) drawer, to pull it out. Then I removed it but sliding it out with its rails, careful to tuck them in while supporting the drawer as it is pulled out to not put pressure on those rails. With that drawer and rail removed. I then pulled forward the top drawer of the freezer conpartment, until it hangs down because the bottom drawer is gone. It's easier than fighting those tabs. Not everyone can do this without breaking something so... beware.

Thank you for the video! I got the 8W version just a couple of days ago. So far very impressed with the receiver! I always complain about direct conversion radios de-sensing on big antennas. It doesn't seem to happen with this one at all. Very good receive audio, too. According to my meter, it puts out ~7W on simplex and repeater GMRS channels. The only downside is that not all antennas fit. They seem to fit, but there is no RX or TX. Unfortunately, one of such antennas is the presumably "genuine" Nagoya 771G antenna from BTWR. The good news is that Smileys work well, so I can always use the telescopic Superstick with it if I want to. Thank you again!

Time will tell but this 8w version seems like a killer value. Yeah its not a name brand, but even my older "Japanese" rig's performance goes down hill with age. It's hard to dismiss the price differences.

@Soladaddy7 ай бұрын
Because the radio itself and the person holding the radio is the antenna's counterpoise HT antenna SWR can't be measured with a normal meter as the meter will be in the middle of the antenna. Smiley claims the resonate frequency is in the middle of the claimed freq and good for +/_ 5 MHz from the center. Short of a very expensive equipment collection I have to go with a trusted manufacturer.

After watching your video again, I ended up ordering one myself. Not that I "needed" another radio, but I was really curious. Got it this morning. Great receiver, just like you said. Did some online digging, and it looks like it's a close relative to the TYT TH-88/Retevis RT85 models. Those radios started using Beken chips instead of the 1846 chip found in ordinary Baofengs, Btechs, etc. Since there is no "birdie" at +275 kHz, I assume the chip is BK 4819. Since this radio does not aim to be a wide-band receiver like the UV-K5, it looks like they were able to implement some better RX filtering on 2m and 70cm. The radio receives very well on an outside mobile antenna (5/8) in my RF polluted environment. As always, thank you for your video!
@romien8wwr4147 ай бұрын
You sold me on one. I typically run a quarterwave 2m antenna on my dual bander for it's broadbandedness. It will be the next antenna I buy.
