I am of the view that Risen Star was the closest he came to reproducing himself. He was unlucky in the Derby but he showed up and shone in the Preakness and Belmont ❤

Mr. Hancock, I struggle to find the words to describe what a wonderful man you are. It never ceases to amaze me that you maintain your humble disposition and character - even after all of these years. Watching old footage of you at age 23 and watching you on these interviews tonight, you are the same man today as you were then - even after losing your father and taking on such a tremendous responsibility. Secretariat, and all of your horses, were and are lucky to have you and your family to be their advocates. You are a role model and I so respect everything you stand for.

Oh that made me tear up watching him tear up all these years later. Secretariat has always been my favorite horse. It was my dream to see him in person, and one September morning in 1989 I got to do that during my first trip ever to Lexington. I didn't know it at the time, but I got to visit Secretariat exactly four weeks to the day before they had to put him down. He was in his stall, and the nice old gentleman showing me around that day just told me that Secretariat had sore feet. I didn't know then what that would foretell. I got to pet Secretariat and even put my arm around his neck and hugged him and had my picture taken with him. They probably had him medicated at the time, because the gentleman said that if he was feeling better, Secretariat wouldn't have let me do that. I was devastated when I heard the news the day he died, and I remember crying for three days afterward as if I had lost a loved one. I even sent a flower arrangement from a local florist to the farm for his funeral. That horse meant the world to me. Thank you for these interview videos.

In 1973, I was a 12year old Track and Field sprinter. When Big Red won the Triple Crown, the same week I won "All City Track and Field" champion. For the rest of the school year, my classmates called me "Secretariat". In September 2023, I took a side trip to Claiborne Farm on my way to Florida, to honour "Big Red' on the 50th anniversary year of his legendary achievement. A thrill to visit Secretariat's stall, and to meet the newest breeding stallion, War Front. Impeccable maintained grounds by staff. It is inspiring to listen to passionate people for whom "Doing the usual, unusually well" I will remember for a lifetime.

1:29 You could see that Mr. Hancock didnt see Somethingroyal's Best Son as any ordinary race horse. The way his voice breaks remembering his last good bye, which happened 30 odd years ago, speaks volumes of how they treated and cared for their Stallions.
