Your dedication and drive are admirable, but I would advise to do some more bouldering before leading stuff like the yellow one in the beginning. Lead is more about endurance and finding good positions to clip the rope from than getting better technically. On the other hand good lead climbing demands to be technically sound in order to find good clipping positions and be safe. An early fall can be quite dramatic for your ankles. Still, thanks for the upload, I think it will be beneficial for a lot of people to watch.

Awesome you're documenting your journey of improvement. Leading is such a rewarding style. I've watched a few of your videos. I noticed you tend to froggy style a lot, which will tire you out faster. Consider focusing on your technique and incorporating things like laybacks, flags, high knees and drop knees. These will also help you keep your hips closer to the wall. I don't know if you boulder at all, but it's a nice complement to training for Lead climbing. Keep at it 🤙🏻
@BetterEveryWeekForever3 ай бұрын
I really like climbing and wanna get the best I can be! Yes, I do not think I use enough of the techniques you mentioned. I do bouldering as a form of power training but recently the lead competition is taking all the time we have in the gym! Thanks!
@HeresJonnie3 ай бұрын
Your gym allows you to clip just one of the anchors once you've topped? I think it would be good for your development if you took less and risked a fall instead. (Definitely don't grab another climb's holds.) Gym falls are very safe :)
@BetterEveryWeekForever3 ай бұрын
The gym rules does not say anything about clipping two anchors as far as I'm aware. Obviously they are provided and both should be used as a good practice. Hahah, yeah, if I don't feel like I wanna push hard then I would just grab the other holds instead of taking a fall. Having said that, not that we started a lead series competition we are trying really hard to get more points so there will be more falls and pushing out of the comfort zone! Thanks for watching!

That second to last clip probably would have been a bunch easier if you had done the next move first. Most route setters do "nice" clipping positions, so if it feels awkward, you probably haven't gone far enough.
@BetterEveryWeekForever3 ай бұрын
Ah so that's what that was! I was thinking to myself I need to train clipping in awkward positions, this seems to happen often recently for me
@Beam_of_Love3 ай бұрын
@@BetterEveryWeekForever It took (and still takes) me a good bit of convincing to not clip as soon as I can physically reach the next quickdraw, but rather when I have a nice stable position. The (quite logical) advice I got myself is, it's perfectly fine and safe to clip just at hip height - since any point earlier you'll just take out more slack, and should you fall while clipping above you, you're gonna actually fall farther than if you'd just climbed on for 1 or 2 more moves. Just very conciously hammering that into my head and clipping "late" on easy routes at least got me farther in that habit. I hope you don't mind advice from someone who can just about onsight 5b and still is very scared about lead climbing any old 6a or higher. 😅
@BetterEveryWeekForever3 ай бұрын
Thanks, I appreciate all advice! This is in fact what I am trying to do and say to myself on some easier climbs (if I remember about it) and then as soon as the difficulty increases, it's hard to listen to the right voice in my head 😅. We've done some fall practice before to unlock the psyche and get rid of the fear of falling but yeah the clipping timing is still something I need to remember to practice more. Stay strong and safe!

Those top biners aren't redundant and could allow for a follow/top rope. I know you just lowered, and have all your clips below, but that's a liability on the gym's side.
@BetterEveryWeekForever3 ай бұрын
Aren't they redundant when you have two of them opposite and opposed? Or do you mean they are only attached to one anchor point? I would prefer a locking one for top roping but we were not planning on doing that in any case.

@@BetterEveryWeekForever they’re both attached to only one point of the metal hanger. There should 2 permadraws hanging from each attachment.
