Ants or other bugs fall in, and scramble to get out, the sloped sides are soft sand, it falls, into the bottom as they try to get out triggering the attention of the ant lion, who comes out from the bottom and snatched his prey and pulls them under the surface 😮 ive always been fascinated by the ant lion since i was a kid. I used to drop tiny pieces of meat into them, just to watch them pop out lol 😆
