I went to mission hill in 1997 I had just moved to Boston the previous year from California and was the only Mexican kid in the school but I had the best teacher ever Mrs Heidi and met some great friends there that school really helped me the 2 years I was there I unfortunately moved from Dorchester to Brockton and had to go to Luis Angelo school which was a lil more of a suburban school but the teachers weren't even close to being as amazing as the teachers at mission hill I really miss Boston the best city I've ever lived in when we moved back to call I when I was 11 that shit really sucked lol I wish my fam would've stayed out there

Is it possible to get the music and lyrics for the "Hello"song in many languages at the end of the video? it starts at 5:52. A lovely, calming, happy melody!

Sorry I never saw this comment, but I can't help you in any case. The music teacher who taught the children that song is no longer associated with the school, and we never found out the name of the song.

GOOD MORNING MISSION HILL, the one hour film derived from much of the same material, but presented as a whole, and narrated by Mission Hill staff, aired on public television this fall. It is now available for community screenings and individual purchases. Google Good Morning Mission Hill!

Is that, making portfolio, presentation, question and answers "authentic assessment"?
@TomValens8 жыл бұрын
certainly these are forms of authentic assessment.

The series is nice. The only think that I find unsettling is the overly-emotional behavior of many people among the staff.

The work they are doing with these students is truly inspirational! Thanks for allowing me into this world of "cans" and "do's".

Mission Hill - I would want to go there, and I would have loved for my children to have had the opportunity to attend. We need to start moving towards this standard of teaching and allow the children to do their own learning by just simply providing the right environment for this to occur, naturally. What a vibrant beacon of just "what can be" in the realm of learning, as opposed to what mainstream public schools have made out of education. Marvelous!

It has been a distinct privilege to visit Mission Hill month by month and to write a few posts about what we experienced for our readership at Courage & Renewal.. Kudos especially to the principal and teachers for their courage to teach and stand up for what is right for their students and families. And thanks everlasting for the voice and vision of Deborah Meier. Yes, Sam, it is more than about time! Chip Wood

There is so much I love about this piece. The focus on emotional intelligence (EQ), full inclusion, a celebration of strengths rather than weakness "tunnel vision". What lucky students and what a fortunate community. I hope to see other schools learn from this model.

Great look at the human elements of teaching and learning that can't be tested or standardized, but have to be *felt* through.

We love Tom and Amy Valens! In fact, we love anyone who will consider social emotional issues in the classroom and how they impact a child's: 1) well-being, 2) learning in that order.

We'd love to see your video response--short images of something happening at your school that makes you glad your child is there, or that you teach there! To read our blog about the making of the film, search for August To June.

How inspiring and refreshing to see a public school that is flourishing and filled with joy. The electricity is tangible and infectious.
