Your vid made my day just now. I love informative sarcasm. My POTA activation gear looks almost exactly like yours. Only difference is that I have a 30ah battery sitting on the passenger seat. The radio just sits on the dash and the power wire hooks to the battery on the passenger seat. The ATAS is mounted on my pickup fender (but only after I get parked and ready to do a POTA activation). Otherwise, the ATAS sits on the floor in the back seat. The coax is cleverly run from the fender mount through the door and then sits on the dashboard - all the time, antenna mounted or not. I was severely chastised for this setup on a Facebook POTA page. I'm too old to be messing around with professional quality wire installs. "Good enough is good enough" is my motto. Can't wait to catch another fine video from you.

Hey thanks!! I appreciate it - This hobby is way too much fun to take overly seriously. I agree - Don't let perfection get in the way of "good enough." I just upgraded trucks so I'm trying to figure out how I want to do everything going forward. One thing I can guarantee is gratuitous heat shrink tubing!!! VRY 73!

I bought a ft891 and a FC-50 tuner about 6 weeks ago and I really like it. The receiver is excellent, I usually have MTR TNR and DNR programed on ABC. The ATAS antenna looks slick.

STRONG recommend! I've tried other Heil headsets and I thought they were really poor quality. The Pro 7's are great all around - just make sure you get the ones with the IC element for Icom radios if you do pull the trigger.

@@LowSodiumHamRadio In all honesty, I live in an apartment and the restrictions here have encouraged me to go portable and given me the chance to play (and learn) about antennas in a way that I wouldn't have if I could just stick something up and forget about it. Very cool set up. I am probably going to take a few of those ideas and use them in my station. The winds (tornados and 100 mph straight winds) around here are bad lately, so good strong "guy" supports are important. Never really thought about those straps for a semi-permanent set up before, but it should work out well for my set up
@LowSodiumHamRadio2 ай бұрын
Pro tip on using ratchet straps for guy wires - make sure you twist the straps around a bunch of times so the straps don't act like a reed and create an INCREDIBLY annoying high pitched drone. At all hours of the night. For you and your neighbors to enjoy. 🍻

@@W0CYC-HamRadioEndeavors This is the most fun I’ve ever had playing radio! It’s also the most challenging but most rewarding aspect of the hobby by far! By making these types of videos explaining everything and sharing tribal knowledge the community can lower the barrier to entry for other hams who want to explore the space birds. 🤣This is your best review/installation video to date. Keep up with the super informative format. I might have to get some of this shrink tubing for my installation.
