Extraordinaria música angelical. Cuesta mucho acostumbrar el oído a este género musical, pero con paciencia las nuevas generaciones pueden descubrir este nuevo mundo ❤❤❤

These old traditional hymns had what no contemporary hymns can surpass: Relevant, devotional text and good, solid music. This hymn, which appears in the Westminster Hymn Book has a superb harmonization.

We used to have this Communion hymn nearly every morning in the 1960s at 8:00am daily school Mass in four-voice by the Boys Choir under the direction of the late Howard F. Vogel at St. Benedict's in Eggertsville, NY. I still treasure the words of that text. What more prayer than the the text of this hymn and the Our Father does one need to offer up?

Confusing to have two settings with the same title! The 6vv a cappella one is from 1997; this one is the first of Two Human Hymns (1995)

Young parents should realise that hymns and prayers that are said in church in a child’s early years remain in their hearts and minds forever. I am 87 and I certainly remember !!!

This is so very true. It is amazing how the words of a particular hymn come spontaneously to mind just when you are searching for the words you need to express praise and thanks, or to pray earnestly for help.

Lyrics: Sing for the morning's joy, Cecilia, sing, In words of youth and praises of the Spring, Walk the bright colonnades by fountains' spray, And sing as sunlight fills the waking day; Till angels, voyaging in upper air, Pause on a wing and gather the clear sound Into celestial joy, wound and unwound, A silver chain, or golden as your hair. Sing for your loves of heaven and of earth, In words of music, and each word a truth; Marriage of heart and longings that aspire, A bond of roses, and a ring of fire. Your summertime grows short and fades away, Terror must gather to a martyr's death; But never tremble, the last indrawn breath Remembers music as an echo may. Through the cold aftermath of centuries, Cecilia's music dances in the skies; Lend us a fragment of the immortal air, That with your choiring angels we may share, A word to light us thro' time-fettered night, Water of life, or rose of paradise, So from the earth another song shall rise To meet your own in heaven's long delight.

I absolutely love this hymn, I can remember when I was a child back in my old church Corpus Christi in Manchester UK in the middle 1950s and we sang this particular hymn regularly, it's so nice to see and hear young people singing this beautiful hymn, sadly at my church now in Australia it's never recited, I have noticed many of the hymns we sang as children now seem to have disappeared from our hymn sheets, another beautiful one was `Oh Mother I could weep for Mirth`, Tantum Ergo and many many more, I know we have to modernise but if you ever notice the congregations of most of our Catholic churches today you will see mostly older people and seniors like myself and are sometimes at a loss when all these modern hymns are sung, surely we don't have to loose all our old hymns, please remember there are still a lot of older people around.
