I'm glad you mentioned hydrogen embrittlement. I was thinking of soaking a corroded gearbox in a solution that contains citric acid. I think that the gears are subjected to a little too much stress to risk embrittlement. But, I have found out that it only occurs at room temperature, so maybe a very hot bath might prevent it ? Also, if the piece is heat treated to about 220 degrees C within 4 hours of hydrogen exposure, that gets rid of the hydrogen. But I cant fit the gearbox in the oven.

Hi Trev! I've learned much from your channel and appreciate your sharing. In welding a patch into a rear quarter panel of my 52 mercury I accidentally over-shrunk the area which flattened out an area that should bulge slightly above the rear tires. I cant' get to the back side due to the wheel tub in the way. How can I re-stretch that panel without being able to dolly it?

Gas pressure of 6 litres per minute, tried that and the welds were terrible so google'd it and said for car bodywork you need around 10 to 12 litres per minute, turned it up to 10 and now the welds are perfect

Hi Trev, loving your work 👌 I have a question, you mention the corrolan can effect rubber hoses, will it break down the rubber? And if that's the case what about rubber bushes? Best to mask them off? Sorry 3 questions!

@@trevsblog Yes the imports seem like their not to bad if your not using it every day . I can tell you this the ones in the states that are made here , are going for the close amount of 2000.00 dollars . Heavy duty and you probably can get parts for . For my first one I might go for the cheap import. Thanks

@@michaelhallas6450 it’s ten times less money so it’ll never be as good, fine for dent pulling heat shrinking welding on pull washers but as a stud welder underpowered.

Such a lovely van restored to perfection, great work! I'm curious about the fuel economy with that engine and gearbox combo? I have a later Bedford CF which gets only gets about 20mpg...gulp! Maybe that type of engine swap could be worth it?
@trevsblog2 ай бұрын
@@miladyanne8411 if it’s mostly fuel economy you’re looking for then this engine isn’t the best to be honest. A diesel turbo diesel engine would the best bet for sure but the engineering with these projects are a minefield. 👍
@miladyanne84112 ай бұрын
@@trevsblog Thanks for your reply Trev! I'm surprised you didn't get much economy from that combo. Maybe a transit diesel engine could be an option. Yes a minefield indeed, I won't rush in to anything yet as my old slant 4 is running well at the moment....Thirsty as hell though.
