The late blues and soul singer Denise LaSalle, who was born in rural Mississippi, told me that the adults in her family used to scare the kids with stories of a spooky character named "George Eyebuster" -- if the children had been bad that year, he'd come on Christmas instead of Santa Claus. I guess he was Scratch Eyes' Mississippi cousin!

Great video footage, thanks for sharing. We're going to see Carol Burnett at the Ryman auditorium next month. It would be great if she brought out Dolly Parton as a special guest

I had this album way back when it was released. It was very well produced and showcased Dolly's excellent unique vocals as well as her writing. Thanks for posting. Too bad a taped version of this does not exist.

I just have to stop the video in the middle not b/c I don't like this, on the contrary, there's something so wonderful, blessed, and special about Dolly Parton's voice that EVERY time I hear her sing I get goosebumps in the back of my necks and I almost want to cry! Am I the only one that feels this way? She's absolutely amazing and her voice...that voice is like an angel is breathing through her vocal cords. I guess it doesn't hurt that my mother raised me on her music as well as Kenny Rogers:)

The part where Dolly's singing by herself (without an audience) is at the Ryman Auditorium (original home of the Grand Ol' Opry), while the rest of the special was filmed in the new Opry. At the time this was filmed (1978), the Ryman had remained mostly vacant, since the Opry had moved to the new building in 1974. The Ryman would remain shuttered until the early '90s, when Emmylou Harris recorded her live AT THE RYMAN album there, and then it was restored and reopened as a concert hall.

This was an hour long special and in my opinion the best performance was when they did the "Love" segment. It was a perfomance where they sing all songs it seems like ever written with the word love in it.

I had the PRIVILEGE of meeting Carol when was a waiter at the "Bistro Garden" in B.H. WAY back in 1990....(Never mind, don't ask my age....LOL). My grandma and I used to watch her every Sat night. We laughed until we almost peed. The point? When I told Carol that these were some of the most precious memories of my childhood, she burst into tears and said that's why she did the show. We talked more and I can honestly say, she was the most genuinely nice person I've ever met....famous or not.
