It’s not a strange motor, it’s a dry-powered motor. This motor is also referred to as “Chewbacca” since it’s B pitched.

Lucky you got a room at the top floor, but I have a feeling that the key only works for your floor and you were able to go up to 6 because you were staying on 6. Hotel elevators are being smart keyed nowadays.

Tbh I think TSNY18 is right, it’s not just Las Vegas that is doing it. It’s also other cities and states! The elevators got smart keyed at the Hyatt Regency Downtown SOMA in San Francisco (CA) along with Hyatt Regency Embarcadero Center, Ritz-Carlton in Denver (CO), JW Marriott in Miami (FL) along with the Epic Residences, Marriott Marquis in Atlanta (GA), Venetian in Macao (CN), Westin in Philadelphia (PA), Westin Galleria in Dallas (TX) AND FINALLY, the Westin Peachtree Plaza in Atlanta (GA) that you literally went to back in 2020!
