Back when you could joke with people. I don't joke much anymore. People are too sensitive now. Pretty sad no good comedy come out anymore and best comedians are to afraid to do envelope pushing comedy

That is so incredible to witness. There was nobody quite like Don Rickles. I would love to see him in 2024, kicking everybody’s ass, and still getting away with it.

Rickles performed completely unscripted. Today, comedians that speak at Political Events, are handed prewritten pre-approved scripts and must not say any other words.

It's deeply insulting to all the horror that was going on all over the world, it's insulting to the people who were suffering through that horror, much of it directly caused by the US. This was a time when the US was allies with Saddam and literally selling drugs to acquire black budget money to fund terrorists all over the world. The Soviet Union was still a nuclear threat. Despite what the mainstream media would have you believe, we are actually living in more peaceable times right now, if you look at the overall hard data.

"An unspeakable tragedy" and "this is just a football game". People die everyday so according to Cosell's logic, we should never play or watch sports again.

Little known fact about this: Lennon was a guest in the booth during an MNF game the year before at Giants Stadium and loved it. Howard, Frank and John became friends and the whole MNF crew thought John was amazing. So this, contrary to what some have said, wasn't the MNF guys capitalizing on a tragedy. They were passing on the news that a friend of theirs, who happened to be one of the most famous and beloved people on the planet, had been murdered in cold blood.

As a kid, John Lennon was my favorite rock star, or celebrity of any kind. 12-8-80 was my thirteenth birthday. I have never been superstitious about anything else, but this event has always given me a little pause about the power of the number 13. R.I.P John. 😢

That night I was listening on my TV audio radio in bed when the announcement by Howard came on. My mouth came open and I could not process what I just heard. It took me a couple of minutes to understand it. I thought, even after he said "dead on arrival" that fans would still go to the hospital and wish him alive.
